My Uncle worked for Saab in Trollhättan for 20 years.

I used to love when he visited us from Sweden in his original 900 Turbo.

That car was amazing and I loved when he dropped me off at school during his stays.

Saab built in far less GM gear than GM actually wanted. This could have been basically a Vectra with a Saab badge.

What Vauxhall is that stalk from? The door mirror switch is everything from the mid 90’s to the mid 00’s but I don’t recognise the stalk? Anyone know

Funniest thing is, that's a Saab part. GM wanted Saab to use far more Vectra parts, but Saab refused to. The Vectra's stalks were of far better quality 😂

With that a bloke comes out of the house and asks what he's doing with his car 😂

Sad thing is that this generation 9-3 is comparatively sturdy compared to the fully GM-ised interiors of later 9-3s and 9-5s. I have a 2002 9-3 much like this one as well as a 2006 9-5, and the differences in plastics quality on the door cards and dash are just devastating.

He could have used many more... but he stated 3 things here and got 2 of them wrong. One ... this is a 9 3 from 98 -03 and 2 the stalk is not used (to my knowledge on any gm product). If he had truly wanted to be relevant he could have gone in the boot and found a floor made of stiff carpet relying on a spare wheel for support instead of plywood as on the 9000 and the c900. Having said that I have come to admire the qualities of all the post 9000/c900 models for their advantages ... eventually.

GM could of used Saab to bring the entire GM brand quality out of the dustbin, allow Saab to produce quality parts, then GM build them and use them across the brand, driving the cost back down due to the quantity made....

What ruined Saab was that not enough people bought them and chose a german car instead . Sad but true

I had an almost identical 9-3 - a 2.2 turbo diesel. It wasn’t so much the interior quality that felt cheap to me, it was the truly awful, rough and old fashioned diesel engine, and the bulkhead flex, which could be felt through the steering. Oh, and the poor reliability. I actually liked the interior a lot - great seats and a massive boot. But, true to its Cavalier roots, it felt cramped in the cabin.

In all honesty, my 9-5's have the same stalks and they are alot smoother and quieter. Also, they're very easy to change out as they plug in with a locking harness, and they are relatively affordable.

Those cheap parts are still attached and working over 20 yrs later. That the only negative you got??😂

GM have screwed up more brands than just SAAB. Cheap and poorly put together just about sums them up.

GM wanted to know why SAABs were more reliable. They were p**sed off on discovering that they used better electrical components over the cheaper ones.

Man I miss my 97 Saab 9000 cse turbo 5spd! It got totaled on the interstate after I had just got it repainted & ready for some maintenance repair the next day!

If you're trying to convince people of this, you'll have to come up with more than, still working, 22 year old switches.

lol Saab was dead before GM bought it.

The iconic Scania CEO Leif Oestling figured SAAB out in a heartbeat and ditched them at GM's lap....

Spouts off, yet it’s a 9-3 not a NG900 . They may not had been bank vault heavy duty quality like earlier models, but compared to other stuff produced around same time, they’re well up there.
