In this video, we’re going to take a look at hypertension. Ninety percent of all hypertension is considered essential hypertension. This means the cause is unknown. Anti-hypertensive medication is one of the most prescribed medicines in the world.

Normal blood pressure is 120/80. Research suggests a strong relationship between potassium deficiency and high blood pressure. Many people are deficient in potassium because the requirements are so high—4700 mg daily.

You need about half as much sodium as potassium, but many people consume three times as much sodium as potassium!

Potassium directly controls the tone of the vascular system. This directly affects blood pressure. Potassium also supports the endothelial layer of the arteries and helps improve insulin resistance.

Potassium supplements often only contain 99 mg of potassium, which is incredibly low considering how much potassium you actually need.

You can get potassium from salad, but you must consume around 7 to 10 cups daily. This also provides magnesium. The combination of potassium and magnesium can help reduce high blood pressure.

Diets high in carbs and sugar cause you to lose potassium. Adrenaline and cortisol deplete potassium as well.

To support healthy blood pressure levels, try increasing your salad intake. You can also look for a high-quality electrolyte powder that's high in potassium.

I have high blood pressure and my potassium was low after being put on new blood pressure. My doctor said that low potassium was actually bad for my kidneys and told me to eat a banana and some dried apricots to up my potassium. I ate a banana a day and a handful of dried apricots and within two weeks my potassium returned to normal levels. Now I eat a banana a day and munch on apricots as well as eating the salads and a Mediterranean diet. My doctor feels confident that I will be able to get off of high blood meds if I start exercising regularly and drop some pounds. I'm glad that I have a doctor who is focused on reducing and removing meds vs increasing and keeping me on them for life.

Im 67 yrs old. I have your electrolyte powder. My GP died, I ran out of BP meds, I started watching your podcast, I went. From 195 to 155lbs and my BP is like 135-145 over 80.

I’m crying watching a few of your videos. I don’t want to take pills for this; I reversed the effects of diabetes 14 years ago with diet I figured out. But this high bp has had me down and confused. I lost my good job over 3 years ago so now I cannot afford to get insurance, hence, no doctor to tell me what is wrong. Your video popped up outta nowhere like the Lord put there for me to see. Thank you for your Free advice!

So true. Dr Berg I don’t know if you are aware of this but you are a national treasure for the information on health that you share with millions of if not billions of people around the world. We need you because you tell us what conventional medicine doesn’t. You go DEEP and when someone is suffering they need real help and that’s what you give them. You are like a Mother Theresa in that you provide healing information to humanity. On behalf of those lives that you’ve touched over the years thank you with much gratitude!!! Nothing like the truth! Went to drs and they’re not interested getting to root of problem just prescribing junk. I took myself off and started listening to REAL DRS!!!!❤ Ty Dr Berg!

I am 83 years old & counting. I have been doing this kind of diet most of my life. I know this information. I do lack in the exercise, but I’m not a couch potato. I have lots of interests that keep me moving. I still have high blood pressure. It came on me suddenly just 6 months ago. I ended up in the emergency room for the 1st time in my life with nausea (not the throwing up kind) that made me sick all over. I had no idea what was happening to me. It took 3 emergency room visits & several doctor visits before I got any medicine, even tho my pressure was anywhere from 169 to as much as 219. ( dystolic was never out of control) My BP was jumping all over the place. No one could understand why I felt so yucky!! No one knew what to do for me. I do not like taking drugs but I was also afraid not to do ‘something’ for fear of a stroke or heart attack. I do know a few people that are on blood pressure meds & they seem to be doing fine. They didn’t even know they had HBP, til their doctor told them.
Well, I finally figured out ‘the cause’ of my HBP!! And……very, very few doctors, or even these doctors that know that drugs are not the answer to curing it, are addressing this. In my case it’s STRESS!!!
With my faith in God, I’ve handled stress relatively well all my life, but for the last 3 years I’ve been under a ‘new’ family stress. I was hoping things would get better with time, but that’s not happening. God & I are still working on it. I’m praying that when this problem gets solved I can get off these ‘cotton-pickin’ drugs!

This is great insightful video, Dr Berg. Natural rich sources of Potassium (K) are in spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, avocados, beet greens, leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, nuts, dairy, fish and eggs. Also it's important to point out that drinking excessive amounts of water may deplete potassium as well. Thank you 🙏🏻❤

My mother's Cardiologist had a hunch as to why she had high bp even with meds; ordered a angiogram and discovered that she did NOT have atherosclerosis in the traditional sense, BUT what she DID have was KIDNEY STENOSIS of 60% on the right side and 40% on the left. When the kidneys are starved of blood, signals are sent to increase supply and increases blood pressure. Stents placed, she went from 145/85 to an average of 120/80.

My bp has never been high and i've never taken any hbp meds. However about a week ago i decided to take my blood pressure....it was 154/68. I also realize the i was eating too much salt. So I decided to go cold turkey. I went 1 whole day drinking plenty of water and without putting anything that was salty or anything that had salt in on my food (straight bland). The next day I checked my blood pressure and it was 128/70. So I decided to let go of the salt. That was 3 weeks ago. I also found out after cutting the salt my appetite decreased. And i started back walking 30 mins a day and little not much musle training. Thank you for the info. John 14:6

Had high blood pressure was put on a couple meds with side effects. Last one was Lisinopril... That made me have too much potassium. Doctor was about to switch meds again. Started eating clean and working out. Down 50 lbs and no more meds!

I did just that in early February. I increased the amount of dark leafy greens I ate each day by consuming multiple salads per day and my BP dropped nicely into normal range.

Excellent info Dr Berg!! Who woulda thought!! 🥴 In fact I just read that avocados 🥑 are the TOP food source for potassium — and I eat at least one per day — occasionally two! We always stock up on avocados every trip to Costco, and once they just BARELY get ripe they are placed into the vegetable compartment of our refrigerator to slow the ripening process allowing them to be eaten over the course of the next week or even two! 👍

The no. 1 reason why people are so deficient in K today and have high blood pressure is sugar and starches consumption. My dad (71 years old) was for over 10 years on HBP medication. Completely ineffective, treating the symptom not the root cause. Of course doctors told him "It comes with aging, nothing you can do about it". I introduced him to keto, through dr Berg, Eckberg and others videos - problem solved in 2 weeks. Ever since, he doesn't need any medication and his BP is average 117/75. And that's stable blood pressure, for years. Keto also solved other health problems for him, but that's another topic.

TIL high blood pressure is often caused by low potassium, and that blood pressure meds are potassium blockers, and that Dr. Berg feels it's the ratio of sodium to potassium in a person's blood that is more important. Having high sodium requires more potassium to offset it, to prevent the sodium from raising blood pressure. When you intake less sodium, your potassium/sodium level ratio improves.

Potassium protects the kidneys, except in stage 4 or above kidney disease.

You cured my High Blood Pressure !! THANK YOU !! This was the finishing touch to my daily supplements stack = 4 Potassium Citarate, 2 Magnesium Glycinate, 1 Calcium Citrate, 1 Zinc, 1 Selenium, 1 iron and 1 copper, adding more Sea Salt to my food PLUS my normal vaious supplemets, Healthy diet and 16/8 intermittant fasting + workouts. This was the GOLDEN RATIOS (of those Minerals) that instantly fixed my high blood pressure. I am 74 and my resting blood pressure now is about 115/71 the majority of the time.
