//10 things you need to do before you graduate college! This is how I'm preparing for post-grad life! I talked about budgeting, saving money, retirement accounts (eek), negotiating your first job and salary, and taking control of your finances! I feel like we don't talk about financial literacy and setting ourselves up for success. These are things I'm doing, and while I'm not an expert, I do think they're things you should do too!

I use my credit card just for gas and going out to eat, and I use my debit card for the rest. Once I have a full time job I assume I'll start using my credit card for more, but until I have that steady income I feel more comfortable using it for food and gas.

I love the comment you made about negotiating a higher salary if you aren't taking advantage of all of the benefits. The flip side is also super useful. If you can't negotiate more money you might be able to get more of other benefits like paid time off, remote working options, and a lot of other things!

Aiden's blog is REALLY REALLY good. What a wise guy! He reminds me a lot of my father who is a Financial Advisor with Raymond James. Can't wait to see the two of you pair your skills and wisdom together. Financial Dynamic Duo in the making. :) My favorite blog post is his critique/thoughts about Robinhood. Our generation needs more videos and blogs like yours. I'm encouraged :) Keep it up!

I got my first credit card at 18 (I’m 20 now) and as of now I have and 2 and I promise it’s not scary! As long as you pay your bill on time everything will be fine and it’s helped my credit so much! also I’d recommend using credit cards for things like gas and groceries because you can points from various companies that way, also Discover card gives you money back just for being a good student! Great for college students!

Get a credit card and use it for something specific and small, like anytime you go get a quick lunch, use the credit card. Then you pay it off at the end of each month and it’s not a huge expense, you won’t go into debt, and you build credit! It’s helped me so much!!

Hopefully this will help you Michelle and others soon to be college grads:
A few days ago, I was talking to my mom (who is an amazing accountant) about credit and she told me that the best way to start building credit is to get a credit card and use it for monthly obligatory expenses (light, gas, groceries, cable, etc.) things you know you can and have to pay; once you become more responsible and have better economic stability you can start using the card for emergencies and gradually increment the use according to how much you can and want to pay. Also the best credit cards are the ones who reward you (money, travel points, etc.)and make you really pay at the end of each month, I've heard America Express has really great options.

Building credit is very important! We actually had a discussion about it in my business law class (@ UT Austin) last week, and he recommended either having it set up in your name but being billed to your parents & buying little things consistently that you know you can pay off!
