💰Cheap DIY Floating Deck💰

I built this deck from start to finish in this video. I was quoted $5500 for a 14 foot floating deck! I built this for a little over $800 in 5 and a half hours and I don't really own tools. I learned from watching do it yourself youtube videos and this is proof you can build a cheap floating deck in a day too because I just did it in this video. This is not necessarily a how to video but I explain what I am doing before every time lapse. I hope this video helps you in some way. If you have any questions leave a comment below or reach me on Instagram. This is the first of many DIY projects I am doing so please SUBSCRIBE to the channel and hit the bell. Our Instagram links are at the bottom. #deckbuild #floatingdeck #diydeck

But make sure to SUBSCRIBE to the channel for my giving back campaign this season. I am going to be putting in the money I make from social media and speaking with all the companies I work with to help me give back to you guys because you have given me so much happiness by subscribing to my channel. My 2021 goals are...

1. Giveback as much as I can through products that I use. Some people always want to try these high end products. Well, I am going to give as much of it to you guys as I can. Every video if possible so you can use what I am using.

2. I want to save up enough Allett dollars and give away the same reel mower I use which is a Liberty 43. It is a $2000 cylinder mower. You have to use my promo code TND99 when their site starts accepting it. It will give you $100 off any machine and put $100 in the donation fund. So for now if you are interested in buying one just reach out to Roland who is the King of US sales and deals directly with the UK and mention my name (Clint, TND99, The Neighbor Dominator). His direct number is (803)226-5036.

My merch store is up and running with the basic stuff but it is high quality (not tee-spring garbage) and it is way cheaper. Come buy a shirt, proceeds go to my daughter.

Also I have my amazon store up with all the products I use or have used with results including all equipment and camera gear I use too. Come shop here and feed the family.

The fertilizer company I stand by is Simple Lawn Solutions. It is all I use on my front showcase lawn. If you are considering using their products please go through my link. It keeps track that I am doing a good job.

I'm working with Petra this year. I will be going over all their products and will be giving some away in the future. If you use coupon code TND10 you get 10% off a sprayer. Here is the link to check out all their products.

These are all my social media sites. I mainly use Instagram and can be reached there. I have my linktree here as well that has all of them in there but it sucks because you have to log into stuff. I am in the process of making a website. Hopefully by summer it will be done.

Only 4 things I will point out that should have been different:

1- Treated wood. In general, unless you live in a very sunny/windy place or your deck is completely under cover, you want your frame made of treated wood. It will extend its life an absurd amount of years.

2- No wood to ground contact. Even if the wood is treated (but specially if it is not). Avoid this because it will be a matter of a few years before it starts to rot. You want to place some rubber/plastic material in between.

3- No wood to concrete contact. Same as above, although you might see it a lot, even with treated wood, you want to avoid it. Wood should either fly over concrete (with steel) or rest on a pad.

4- Cover the ground. You can simply lay some plastic (dark to stop light). You don´t want any weed to grow through your deck. But this completely depends on the ground and location. But generally a weed will easily always find its way up.

Those are my profesional tips only aimed at extending the life of your deck :D When you place wood outside, always aim at overprotecting it if you want it to last very long. It might cost a bit more, but you might gain years on it.

Otherwise, you guys did an amazing job there. Looks neat. May I suggest, add an extra board at the end, to cover the end of your flooring pieces :) But that is just my opinion.

Thank you for being clear about NOT knowing what you are doing. I hope no one gets hurt when weather and weight damage your project.

I loved this video! I’ve had it saved forever! Finally bought all the supplies you used and I will be attempting it myself tomorrow! Wish me luck!!🍀

Since the dirt was not compacted, the deck will get out of level over time or when a load is added to that location.
Would suggest that the step extend the entire width of the door and not just on one side.

Not often that you see the “Joists” perpendicular with the house. Interesting choice. Fun little project for a summer house in a location that hopefully doesn’t rain

Looks great! Personally I would add bracing blocks in the middle for this span of deck and cover the tops of the joists. It wouldn't add much to the cost especially if you use old school strips of roofing paper instead of expensive joist tape. Being close to the ground a small gap between the boards might add to it's longevity as well.

I want to make a deck skit to set my screen tent on and came across this vid fairly quickly. I haven’t been a carpenter for almost 13 years now, so basically watching. This vid is for ‘recap’ purposes only. I have to admit that I totally forgot about the “frowny side up” rule! Much thanks guys and it looks great! I’m going to start my deck today!

Good video - about the "always get more screws than you need." I got the advice of one box of deck screws for my deck, so I bought 2. I literally only needed 5 screws from the second box! lol.

It would be interesting to see what the deck looks like now (spring 2023) after about 2 years, like level, warping, undergrowth etc.
