I do a combo of Drs. McDougall, Gregor, Esselstyn, and Barnard. I personally think that if you stay animal protein-free and processed oil-free, you should be OK.

You explained the difference between the two diets beautifully! You're right, Dr. Greger's diet feels more well rounded, with more variety. I think that's another reason why I like the daily dozen so much - plus Dr. Greger supports my chocolate addiction! Ha!

Both of these doctors are superheroes! But I inevitably lean toward supersaturating my brain with the overabundance of Awesome information Dr Greger puts out there and love his powerful simple tools like the daily dozen app :)

What a great, balanced approach to articulating the differences of the plans. Thank you.

This was really helpful! I'm more partial to Dr. Greger simply because his method feels more effortless, relaxed & is more focused on nurturing your body & giving it the best chance at fighting off disease. I found that following Dr. McDougall's plan left me feeling stressed & I was consumed with worrying about whether I'd lost weight or not...I felt like I was going insane 😕

Thanks for the comparison of these similar diets. It helps me understand that the differences are small and mostly a matter of fine tuning the amount of this and that. Well done!

Dr. Greger has said the same thing about nuts in terms of not having too many of them, and how they in nature come in shells where you have to use energy to get them open. Dr. Greger has also said he prefers people eat seeds over nuts. Dr. Greger has said that 2 table spoons of nut butter a day would be a good serving, and the health benefits out weight the calorie density of the nuts. I think it you're trying to lose weight you might want to cut the nuts back out out all together. That's my personal belief as a personal trainer though. I'm not sure if Dr. Gerger feels that same way or not.

McDougall's is great for people in transition to WFPB. Much more 'stick to your ribs' that we fat/meat eaters are used to. Gregor's is more well rounded once you transition. In everything balance.

Dr. Greger uses research and he puts it to the Test!

Great job of honing this all down into concise recommendations. Even though I think I know about these slight differences between these two, having you explain it correctly and succinctly is really helpful. Thanks!

MrsPlant, Thank you for sharing.. Like you, I'm between Dr.Mcdougall and Dr.Greger's Daily dozen. When I added nuts to my diet, my cholesterol level went up ! But when I took nuts off my diet and did another blood test 3 months later, my cholesterol went down. So, you're right to say that everyone is different and we should eat what suit us better. My family doctor recommended that I cut out oil and nuts as nuts have high content of fat too. I add avocado only once or twice in two weeks...Starch is good enough for me :-)

I love them both and find them to be very similar. Dr G has some very good free references, as you mentioned.. As for nuts, i buy the ones that are already packaged in 1 ounce servings.. I find this helps me with my 'will power"

I couldn't eat the low fat. I kept feeling unsaturated and hungry the whole day. I also had to eat sooo much to get enough energy, that my food almost came out the wrong way again. So I switched to more healthy fats and more protein and that helped me a lot.

My health statistics are good so I don't worry about it. Honestly, if you eat mostly whole food plant based you eat better then the vast majority of people on earth and you won't get weird modern age deseases as fast. Our bodies can have so less optimal food and still work great. I feel like people exaggerate a bit when it comes to food.

I wonder if people ever heard of or understand the law of diminishing returns. It also applies to health topics like food and sport. If you eat super unhealthy and then start eating better, you get quite a big increase in health. If you start eating even better, you get a good, but less then before, increase of health. If you then start eating super healthy, you only get a marginal increase in health. If you at last start eating perfect, it hardly does anything extra anymore and it's probably not really worth it for most people.

I really like your voice, it makes me interested in what you're saying. It's the voice of a young and active woman.

Thank you. It's great to hear the comparison. I have followed Dr. McDougall's plan with some modification. I love coffee!

In mcdougall's maximum weight loss program he does recommend more vegetables and less processed foods like bread. Some people do need the maximum weight loss program. And some people also need a good deal of exercise.

good job! most healthy diet likely involves reducing food volume and using supplements for health. with all these docs you need eat a ton of food a day just for calories, protein and nutrient necessities. there are ways around this being constantly stuffed.
