One of the most historic and shocking moments in British History was when Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators came very close to blowing up the Houses of Parliament. The target of the Gunpowder Plot was King James I, the Royal Family and the majority of the government. Guy Fawkes was arrested with over 30 barrels of gunpowder, and the devastation would have caused a huge amount of carnage in London and in History. But Fawkes was then tortured inside of the Tower of London on the brutal torture device of The Rack. Fawkes was broken on the device, and he then gave over the names of his co-conspirators.
Whilst this was happening, there was a shoot-out involving other conspirators, resulting in the deaths of Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy. But the executions of the conspirators were very brutal and bloody. Each of them were sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered and these occured over two days in London. The conspirators were dragged throughout the capital, before they were hanged until almost dead and then quartered. Also Catesby and Percy were also subject to a posthumous execution.
