The BRUTAL Execution Of August Dickmann - The First Conscientious Objector Executed During WW2

During the Second World War, the pride to fight for your country was instilled by different nations. For the Allies, they wished to end the tyranny of the Nazi Regime and Hitler, but the Germans conscripted millions of people into the army to fight for the Nazi Party. But there were a number of people who refused to fight based on their religious beliefs or opinions. Famously, Desmond Doss was a stretcher bearer who refused to take up arms but heroically performed his duties under enemy fire at Hacksaw Ridge. But there was one man living within Nazi Germany who continually refused to fight as he was a Jehovah's Witness. August Dickmann became the first person executed by the Nazis for being a conscientious objector.

Within the walls of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Dickmann was brought out after his death sentence was confirmed by Heinrich Himmler to a clearing where a firing range had been made. He was shot by a firing squad in a bloody act of murder and was given a coup de grace by Rudolf Hoess, who later went on to be the evil commandant of Auschwitz. Dickmann's execution was greatly shocking, as it showed that the Nazis were willing to kill anyone who did not willingly conform to their policies and pick up arms to fight.

Thank you for this video I am one of Jehovah's witnesses and this video is just wonderful. Thank you again. Also at John 13;35 Jesus said " I am giving you a new commandment that you have love among yourselves" he said that would be our identifying mark . Obviously going to war against fellow Christians would not be loving. Elsewhere we are told " they will not learn war anymore"

Omg, that’s awful, being killed for his unwavering faith & opposition to their war. If anyone deserves a place beside Jesus, this man certainly fits the bill. Still, very sad that his end was such a violent one. RIP, August Dickmann. 🥺💔💐

Hard to imagine Adolf becoming the Chancellor is just over 10 years away from being 100 years ago. This seems so long ago and not that long ago too.

A man who was killed because of his belief in the Bible thow should not kill. Very current today with religious leaders on both sides supporting their soldiers in both Russia and Ukraine

The commander in Sachsenhausen was a man by the name of Hermann Baranowsky, and, because of his husky build, the prisoners soon nicknamed him “Foursquare.” He made this statement on March 20, 1938: "I have taken up a fight with Jehovah. We will see who is the stronger, I or Jehovah." Shortly after August Dickmann’s execution, he was struck with a terrible illness. He died five months later. I guess he got his answer. It was said that when the officers would visit him on his sickbed he would whimper: “The Bible Students are praying me to death, because I let their man be shot!” It is also a fact that after he had died, his daughter, when asked the cause of her father’s death, would always answer: “The Bible Students prayed my father to death.”
