People: **die in a fiery plane crash**
Guy: “Wait that doesn’t sound right.. rewind that.”
People: **come back to life**

that pilot isn’t adjusting, he’s making their end quicker

According to Newtons third law of motion, if everyone jumped up they would all put a force on the plane down which would exactly counteract the missing weight of the plane when the people leave the ground, and the same for when they land again but vice versa, therefore there would be no net change of momentum or velocity after they all had landed.

What about the downward force with everyone’s jump? It would literally do nothing, no altitude loss or gain

When he said “jump” I thought he meant like jump out of the plane 💀
It can’t only be me

When the passengers leave the ground as they're in the air mid jump, the plane doesn't lose any weight since they push off the floor of the plane with the same force as their weight. It's the same as that paradox with the truck full of birds. If all the birds start flying, the truck doesn't get any lighter because they need to push off the ground with their wings and the force of the wind is equal to their weight

Edit: I don't see anyone else talking about this, but there actually would be an effect once the passengers came back down and collided with the floor of the plane. This is because once the passengers reach the apex of the jump, they would actually start ACCELERATING downwards at 9.8m/s because of gravity, so there would be an impact force when they come back down. This doesn't violate the first law of thermodynamics nor Newton's third law, since that force is coming from gravity pulling and therefore accelerating them back down.

I love how the end he said "the captain might be a little annoyed about his pesky passengers" then it goes back to the start scene of the plane nosediving into the ground.

I can just imagine the flight attendant coming on the intercom and saying "all rise, okay 3 2 1" 😂

This also completely ignores how when everyone jumped the force of everyone jumping pushes the plane down as much as it would be pushed up from the lack of weight..

We did something similar in flight school. Sometimes we would sit in on a buddies flight. It was nice to fly, even as a passenger. And you could learn something extra for free! In the C-172's we would tilt the backseat back and forth every so often. That slight weight redistribution would change the balance, in such a lightweight plane, enough to change the pitch of the aircraft. It was funny to watch the other person constantly retrimming the aircraft on cross-country flights. Actually good practice for them too! We all did it to each other haha!

I love that to demonstrate slightly adjusting the trajectory of the aircraft, he shows the pilot setting the flap lever to 5 without touching the autopilot controls nor the elevator trim 😂

The collective reaction of everyone pushing against the floor when jumping canceled the lack of weight

With every force the is an equal and opposite reaction. If everyone jumped, the same force they used to jump would be applied to the plane via the air they create whilst jumping. This is exactly like the birds in a truck myth, where the driver makes all the birds fly in order to drive over a bridge that wouldn't of taken the weight of the birds. It just isn't physically possible

Newtons law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction...they will also push the plane down with 35, 000kg and then land with an equilibrium. Nothing will change
