I work with dementia patients and most of them were highly educated, spoke several languages, surgeons, professors, scientists, lawyers etc….

My mum was diagnosed with dementia at 93 years old she passed away at 97 years old .
She didn’t know how to drive .. she read the newspaper daily. She always had a book in her hands. She ate a Mediterranean diet .

My 78 year old disabled sister had minor dementia. For example, at times she thought our parents were alive. But they died many years ago. Otherwise her thinking was good and she could engage in normal conversations. Then one day she fell while walking. She hit her head hard on the floor. The ER doctors did an MRI of here brain. They found minor bleeding on the brain, but not enough to be concerned about. However, right away after her injury her dementia became very bad. She is not the same person anymore. I discussed this with the ER doctors but they just shrugged it off. They said she will get better over time. But she didn't. This is an example of how devastating a fall can be.

This list needs to also include; Get adequate sleep, and eat a diet rich in healthy non-synthetic fats. A healthy brain requires sleep and adequate amounts of the correct types of fat.

Hey Docs: you forgot 1 of the nicest and best ways to potentially avoid dementia: pets. Several studie s including from the American Psychiatric Association find our furry family members help reduce cognitive decline among those who live alone. Pets also prevent depression and in the case of some pets increase physical activity. 🐇

I just lost my grandma two months ago due to Dementia, she was a teacher and a lecturer, volunteered frequently read every day, was very active and thin, never smoked nor had any alcohol, and passed her cognitive testing but still got diagnosed with dementia, my mom thinks it was more mental perhaps severe depression than dementia.
