A 500 calorie surplus will definetly help you build muscle. A calorie surplus, activates several anabolic mechanism in the body, that you simply don't get the same way at maintenance

Ate in a surplus of nearly 1000. Went from 60kg to 84kg in a year with my beginners gains. Yes added some minor fat. Benched 100kg for reps. Looked huge in a tshirt. Cut down gradually to 76, and now have a good physique, looking to bulk up again to around 86kg. Saying that eating in a 1000 calorie surplus is useless is nonsensical. It is very effective when your starting and your baseline is very skinny. I achieved loads in a very short time and increased my motivation massively to go to the gym. You can meticulously count your 300 calorie surplus if you want when your starting out but i recommend quite the opposite. Hit your protein, eat big, lift big and get big my friends. It’s simple stuff.

This was me for a whole year, started at 147lbs as a 5'7 at the start of my bulk and working out seriously for the first time, was eating 3500 cal and my weight capped at 185 withing 3 or 4 months, i made good strength gains withing a year but I felt awful because of how fat I was, so I started cutting but since I was so fat my cut is taking a long time and I'm still cutting the fat right now(165lbs), and I lost a lot of strength in the process, only bulk 300 calories above your maintenance, I learned that the hard way

"How Many Calories To Build Muscle" and then doesn't answer the question. Luckily I know the answer, but the internet is becoming one big time waste.

You really only need 200 calories surplus, your body only needs to be in a very small surplus.

I’ve done bulking to a cut and Greg’s man gaining into a cut. Both for the same amount of time. Basic some food and training Bulk was overall better. Gained more muscle was stronger and had way more fun and freedom Greg’s just about promoting his cookbook and life style for bussinuess which I applaud and give credit dudes killing it and I like him. But his way isn’t the only or best way

From my experience. If you're at a decent bf% (single digit-13%) you can bulk for 4 weeks at a 300 calorie surplus without putting on extra tub. I mean you'll get some but it's easy to cut off. Just track your weight to make sure you're not eating way too much or way too little

I’m 5’11 and just about 140. I was 5’11 130 just a couple of months ago, so I’m definitely eating a 500-100 surplus a day.
However I think that since I started from so skinny, newbie gains combined with my body probably being some degree of “malnourished” means that ill be much healthier at 150ish, even if i gain some body fat. I also used to lift but couldnt get the eating dialed in, so I think I have some type of suppressed/delayed gains going on right now. Please reply if you have any knowledge on if thats possible.

Anyways, Everybodys journey is different💪

It guarantees an anabolic response at 500, you burn a different amount of calories a day depending on what your doing and even cold weather can affect your calorie expenditure. So unless you're a robot and do the exact same thing in the exact same environment it's not bad idea to play on the safe side
