From future here, my Windows 11 uses 3.6 GBs on idle, will be switching to Ubuntu in some days.

One other observation. You and I and some other computer geeks, play around with virtual machines. I use VirtualBox (which I think is what you're using) and when I create a VM, I allocate some RAM to it. I have 32 GB of physical RAM in the host, and I give vrtualboxes 8 GB each. When you fire up a Linux distro (let's say Ubuntu or Debian) it starts with 600 ~ 800 MB in use, so that's what is claimed from the host's physical RAM. If I get to that 8GB limit, the host will not provide any more and the guest starts to play with paging. But when you fire up Windows (and this is true of current windows, all the way back as far as Win2k) then it claims all the RAM allocated to it the moment it starts the boot process. So if I look like you just did and see Win-10 using slightly less than 2GB of RAM, as it sees it, the host will still be handing over 8. But if I start Manjaro in a VM, and it begins with 700MB in use, then 700MB is what the host sees as used. The remaining 7 & a bit GB of RAM can still be allocated, but it's free for the host to use for other things.
I don't know how much this is down to microsoft v Linux, and how much it's down to the writers of VirtualBox.

I love efficient programs. I respect people who try to keep ram usage low.
THAT SAID, less is not always better. Lets be honest, many systems have more than enough ram. I am using Garuda because i want to keep things loaded in ram. What is the point of having unused ram? I have 16gb of ram, running cinnamon and have multiple browsers open and steam and discord running. I am using 9gb of ram. I am not upset. I would be fine if it used 15gb of ram so long as I never run out of ram and when the system needs ram it intelligently frees up ram with out sacrificing performance.

I have a lot of old computers and SBC using Linux, and yes on some of those systems I need to worry about ram, but honestly I wish more developers just focused on performance instead of keeping ram usage low.
