Windows 10 vs Ubuntu vs Manjaro XFCE - Speed Test!

A quick comparison to see the speed differences between Windows 10 and some of the bug Linux distributions. Ubuntu and Manjaro are two great distributions and the go-to for many people. I went with the flagship desktop environments for each of these Linux distributions making this a comparison of #XFCE and #GNOME.

Windows boots faster, but starts to scan everything up to 30 minutes. On Linux i can work after system start, but on windows i have to wait

Windows is just faster to boot because of the fast boot + secure boot. Disable them and you'll see how slow it will boot.

I don't know if it matters to everyone. But build times with ide's such as Android studio, intellij and such heavy software required for software development are all faster on linux.

I wish someone would do this for several random, representative hardware configs, but instead test things like support for multiple monitor DPI capabilities, bluetooth functionality, and compare various software capabilities like programming IDEs.

This was an awesome comparison. I have been a Windows user for over 25 years but I recently started getting into Linux. Manjaro is my Linux distribution of choice and I am VERY happy with it.

Regarding starting the OS, I use both, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18 and I can affirm that Ubuntu is usable much faster than Windows. Once Windows seems to be ready I need much more time to wait it finishes starting processes than Ubuntu's. It's like Windows pretends to be quickly ready when in fact it is still starting all the processes and it's not really ready to work.

Some of these tests depend on the software, not just the distro/OS. (opening an image/video for instance)

Manjaro would probably be a lot less disk usage if it was a minimal instal, which is more simmilar to a base install of ubunto or windows

I have this modified Core2Duo system with an SSD where Manjaro XFCE manages to take 1:56. Not sure what the issue is because after it boots it is quite fast.
