This is great information, Dr. Grande. I think if more people in the general population had at least a little bit of knowledge in psychology, so many destructive behaviors could be prevented or dealt with in a better way. That’s one of the reasons why I strongly believe everyone should watch your videos, they are such a valuable source of information.

Thank you for all that you do.❤

I wonder if there's any link between this and being abused as a child, my uneducated guess would be yes

Antisocial honestly can come from traumatic experiences which makes a person have no regard for life, because why would they care for people when people always tried to fuck them over?

I've always been an angry child who feels that everyone is suspicious.

My brother has antisocial personality disorder, and schizophrenia, my mother went through hell and back to keep him under control, with a lot of collaborative damage. Yeah I meant to say collaborative because I came out of it with bpd, made it feel like the world is against me and I see aggression where there is none. Made me dehumanize people extremely fast in order to protect myself.

This was very interesting. It seems like impulsivity is tied to a lot of negative outcomes. I can see how the combination of aggression and impulsivity would be a strong indicator of APD. And problematic for those people who have to deal with someone who exhibits those traits. Thanks for covering this Dr. Grande.

I’ve worked with primary aged kids and a fair few of them are aggressive. I believe in early intervention to support them and give them options to work ‘with’ that aggression. The food that they eat has a massive impact on their moods as well. High sugar is lethal for impulsivity snd Fish oil supplementation has been seen to be effective in calming the brain and nervous system. (Brain needs omega fats to function optimally) Plenty of studies to support it!

I have heard there is a genetic link. Scares me. I was married to a man with this diagnosis. Yes he spent most of his life in prison. That’s how I learned about aspd was his prison paperwork. I have 6 kids and 2 of them are his. I have yet to see any abnormal aggression with them or behaviors that set off alarms. Behaves and gets along just like the other kids do. But I will admit it is a worry I have in the back of my head. The years I was with this man were the scariest and most horrifying of my life. I wasn’t aware of this problem or even knew what this disorder even was. The abuse he inflicted on everyone no words could begin to describe. We’re lucky to be alive. He’s locked back up. Where he should be. He continues to try and get ahold of me even after being separated and no contact for over 3 years now. I dread his release.

Thank you Dr. Grande for this information. I have often suspected that my mother has antisocial personality disorder. She has been to prison 3 different times and a lot of jail time in between those sentences. There seems to be no help. She grew up in a loving normal environment. Her siblings don’t display these characteristics. I was wondering if you had any advice to the family members that have to deal with a loved one who has antisocial personality disorder?

Dr. Grande, I love your videos! I think it would be cool if you could do a video on the differences between ASD and ASPD!

I asked my primary care doctor to refer me to a mental health counselor so I am waiting on that phone call. I am nervous because I want to get something out of this and not have to shop around for the right one to understand me or try to misdiagnose me or prescribe me meds right away .😂 I don’t know what to expect 😮! I am exciting to learn about myself and hopefully talk about my traumas and learn how to heal myself ❤

80% is in the prison systems. They are profoundly split from themselves and have a profoundly inner broken child or potentially dead that sits in them. In addition, the Childhood Experiences, Childhood Adversities, Childhood Trauma, Childhood Tragedies, profoundly twists and torments the psyche. The psyche is left torned and tattered and ultimately mutilated. Atrophied in the frontal cortex. A hyperactive and hypersensitive and excitable amygdala and stress related diseases like you said chronic bronchitis or Asthma. The MAO-A is the gene variant for it and can be exploited in a particular environment. It's rabbit holes all the way down in these situations. There are no easy answers. To add, also along with the 80% they have a history of head trauma or TBI. It's like they become Phineas Gage in a sophisticated sense and way. It's important and crucial to heal and reconnect with those spilt feelings and that broken or dead child because hurt children will become hurt adults and they'll likely to project tramua to themselves and others. But us as a species or Homo Sapiens are of Antisociality. Change is possible but that's gonna depend on humanity itself and to give a depressing answer I don't have much hope but what else can we do?

As someone with the disorder, aggressive or disproportionate response to boredom can be a predictor if they do not have ADHD (although I have both). That was my earliest childhood symptom and it wasn’t one I was able to hide or mask.

I did BHE’s for Philadelphias Juvenile Court for years. A behavioral health evaluation is intended to determine the proper recommendation to give the Judge. It is true that we can not diagnose a patient under 18. However, we can evaluate if we believe they are showing signs that they could potentially be diagnosed in the future. I can assure you. YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN ACCURATELY PREDICT ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER IN TEENAGERS! Obviously I have several degrees. Yet, they often unnecessary. Probably no other Psychologist will tell you this, but I care more about others safety than inflating my ego. Your intuition is worth more than a thousand degrees. Learn to listen to it. Trust yourself. If something feels off, don’t mentally justify why you are probably wrong. In all honesty it doesn’t matter what/if a person is diagnosed with, a dangerous individual is no less dangerous because he/she hasn’t been diagnosed with APD. Stay safe!
