Don't want a SUV or ute? Check this out! 2023 Mazda 6 review (sedan and wagon, 20th Anniversary)

So many people buy SUVs or utes for their family needs these days. But they're missing out.

That's because there are still very impressive midsize sedan and wagon options out there, like the Mazda 6.

This beautiful car is just as good looking now as it was when it launched in 2012, and the Mazda6 nameplate has just celebrated 20 years of existence... so the Japanese brand has added a new 20th Anniversary Edition version of the sedan and wagon.

They both get the turbo petrol engine (the one you want) and they have some, er, interesting trim choices inside.

But even if you don't choose that grade, there's still a lot to like in the Mazda 6 line-up, even if it is starting to feel a bit long in the tooth.

"The screen is one of the biggest decision makers when people are buying a new car" Humanity is lost! 🤦🏻

Such a beautiful looking car, inside and out.
I remember fondly when it’s direct competitor was the Honda Accord Euro.
The biggest problem now is the Toyota Camry is it’s bigger competitor, and the hybrid version kills it for sales.
I hope a new generation arrives one day, even if it’s an electric sedan to rival the Tesla and Polestar

At least it doesn't look like someone has left their laptop sitting on the dashboard, i.e. like on the latest Toyotas !

Spot on with the headroom issue, I was considering a 6 (I was considering the 6, CX-30 and CX-5), but could not fit in the back as I was too tall, I’m 6’4, my head was jammed against the roof in the back, and I have members of the family taller than me so it was a no. It’s what led me to go for my CX-5 instead.

I was just recommended your video (I’m assuming it’s because of my love for Mazda) and I immediately clicked on your video because I thought to myself, “wait what?!?! they brought the Mazda 6 back?!?”
When I heard your accent I immediately knew my dreams were ruined lmao!!! I’m from the states and they discontinued the Mazda 6 here unfortunately. It looks like for your market, they took a few aspects from the all new (for the u.s. market) cx-90 and applied them to your guys’ Mazda 6. It’s a shame they didn’t implement the bigger infotainment as well as the most up-to-date taillights from the u.s. market for you guys. Nice video though, keep up the great work!

I love this car especially the inside love the colour😍! Now I have a Mazda cx 30 luxury with all the options and I feel very safe because all the warnings. In my car the leather is black and brown and I like this matching colours. The mazda 6 sedan could easily be my next car if I had the money for it.

You fail to mention the manual is still offered but only on the NA power train. The turbo variant is also a price premium upwards of 5 grand. I know plenty of people that opted for the NA carbon edition, and the NA Engine isn't really a slouch if you're doing proper maintenance or even applying some aftermarket modifications. There's a couple people who have turbo charged the NA engine pushing over 300hp to the wheel

This is probably the most luxurious Mazda 6 car I’ve ever seen. Interior looks almost like a BMW.

If they change the infotainment to the latest one and the gauge cluster from the cx90 then it's fine.

its now in the company car market segment, obviously the higher grade models will be skewed towards private buyers but overall this market segment is all but dead.

Nice turbo petrol engine but the 6-speed torque converter lets it down when left to do its own thing, to get the best out of the engine you have to use the semi-auto mode and go your own gear shifting which thankfully is the correct way of pull to upshift push to downshift, that said the transmission has its own issues in that it will not downshift to lower gears at certain road speed so you really cant make full use of the 420Nm torque however I suspect that is probably due to FWD torque steer issues but its a shame as if you want to hustle on a good windy road the transmission won't let you, also typical Mazda is suspension (too soft) and steering (too sharp) which makes for a fidgety ride at highway speeds with constant steering inputs to keep the vehicle straight and BRAKES again typical Mazda under-equipped, Mazda never get brake pedal feel right, its like pressing on petrified wood.

As for the rest of the package? its old but functional which means everything works the way it should,

That said buy the Camry if your in this market segment unless you really want a station wagon then this is really your only mainstream choice.

Good review Matt. Mazda still have an excellent range of vehicles with proper auto transmissions. I think the CX5 turbo GT or Akera would be my choice.

Should not have dropped the diesel
I have a 19 model, 251, 000km, still getting sub 5.0/100km average.

I recently had a drive in a 2022, Mazda 6, i thought the drivetrain lacked torque, needed lots of revs to get anywhere. Wasn't overly impressed for the $$.
