a pickup truck is like a pocket knife. you don't use every function of a pocket knife but its really smart to have it in the event that you do need to use those functions.

Better value is a relative term. Living in the city, manoeuvring around, or finding parking is leaps and bounds easier in a car, and the reason I have one as a daily driver. But my car won't tow a boat, or carry as much stuff when going on a camping trip, so if finances permit, its great to have both.

I had nothing but trucks and then bought a Focus to DD when gas prices went up. Ended up selling the truck cause I never drove it anymore. I sure don't miss the 14 mpg. Bought a Focus ST and love it. 30mpg, 280whp, and fun to drive. Whenever I need a truck to pick up big things I just text my buddy and he is more than happy to swap rides for a day lol.

Truck ownership comes at a cost. The additional cost for maintenance/repairs, insurance, and fuel consumption needs to added to the values issue. I've owned both cars. SUVs, and trucks and prefer to rent a truck when I need it. I also generally keep my vehicles 10-15 years.

I have a family of 6 and having previously gone through small car, medium suv and minivan as the family grew; the truck is the ultimate vehicle for my family. It can haul all 6 of us through any weather conditions for a camping trip or a costco run. Its also very close to an ICE van for fuel consumption.

Back in '98, I moved up to a Ram pickup and let go of my Honda Prelude. I've had people ask why I, as a single female of a certain age, do I drive that great big pickup? I respond that I'm always hauling something around, making dump runs, helping friends move, hauling firewood, etc., and I can even sleep in the bed if I had to. I do plan to get a small trailer and travel, but in the meantime, my truck is handier than a shirt pocket. I put a simple canopy on the bed, and it works just fine.

You don't have to justify your truck, Enjoy your vehicle & spend your money on what you want brother!

I think owning a nice car and a nice truck is the smart choice, have the car for most daily driving, have the truck for when you need to haul things, go camping/exploring, and for bad weather.

As soon as I purchased my first truck, I somehow end up with so many new friends. Now I transport furniture for all of my new friends for free.

I just have a subcompact for daily driving and own a Nissan frontier for hauling and camping. Best of both worlds.

I agree, to a point. Can’t commute 1-5 people to work and back 150 miles a day at 50+ mpg in a pickup. No way.

"Pickup trucks make this country great." Amen brother!

Still didn’t give a reason other than generic “best value” lol. 75% of people with a pickup don’t really need one. of course a pickup is the best for them. People in the suburbs buying a $70k pickup is just hilarious to me and I don’t get it.

I've had 4 spouses already, so I no longer seek approval in my decisions towards trucks. 😎

First vehicle in high school was a truck and I’ve owned mostly trucks ever since. Can’t live without them

My wife says she “hates” to drive my came back from a 9 day out of town business trip and my truck had 1/4 tank and a few scratches in the bed lol mad? No! She admitted that she needed to use it to move things from her parents’ house and she ended up liking it a lot. Now she tries driving it when we go out on the town. Like someone said above, it’s a Swiss Army knife of vehicles! So many uses, comfortable, powerful, and safe!

I agree with this video except for one thing, I'm not a pick up truck guy, I'm a Van guy (real van, not mini). Anything like tools, that I might leave in a pick up would get wet or stolen and with the van, things are out of sight, dry and protected from theft. That driving over high water is a very real thing here in Miami about 6 times a year. I'm on my 6th van now in over 40 years of driving. When I was in my early 20's, I received a big check from an insurance claim. I had about 10-15 thousand bucks to spend on a new car, this was 1982 so that was like having 40 thousand now. A lot of money for a kid to spend and I choose to blow it all at once, no car payments, just drive of the lot with a paid car. I didn't have to think for long, I gave a Trans Am some thought, but I decided on a new Chevy Van, Midnight Blue with every factory option on it that was available, Power window and locks, Cruse control, all kinds of stuff that simply was not often seen on a van back then. My point is, I figured that for the same money as a fancy sports car, I could have a solid, tricked out Van and not have to worry about transportation for a long time, I was right, it lasted me 23 years, never once broke down in 264, 000 miles. Trucks give you so much more for you money than cars do. The first 10 years I used it just for fun, starting at 10 years old, I turned it into a business truck and it made me money in my own business, it paid for it's self hundreds of times over, that is a fact. I have bought 5 more vans after that one. and have always owned at least 2 or 3 at a time for the last 20 years or more. Vans are really safe in most accidents too, they are all around the best bang for the buck in a car. If a girl won't think you are cool enough unless you drive a sports car, you need to move on to a decent girl, so there is even more value added, dating advice.

There are two primary arguments in favor of SUVs over trucks which I think motivates most people: third row seating, and lockable vertical trunk space. Sure you can cover and lock the flatbed, but that’s limited in terms of what objects it can hold vertically. If not for these two needs, I agree with everything you mentioned.

I would probably never need one if I were driving in the city, I don't want my car to have 14 mpg for no reason
