CPU Cooler Ticking Sound *DIY FIX* in English

Here's how to fix the irritating ticking sound your CPU cooler makes when your PC is idling.

At 00:17 you'll probably need to turn up your speakers/headphones to hear the noise - watch out for 00:31 when the microphone gets put back onto my shirt!

This video features a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 fitted onto an Intel i7-9700KF socketed into the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS motherboard, but the fix should work for any combination of cooler, CPU and motherboard.

In terms of cooling the Dark Rock Pro 4 is the pinnacle of air cooling for this kind of processor, but it is really good at making a low noise system with a bit more performance than you'd normally get.

Use it with a lower end Intel or AMD CPU, for example, and the massive 250W DTP it has will give so much headroom that the fans won't be spinning at audible levels even when the processor is under full load.

For processors like the i7-9700KF in the video that run notoriously hot, it's better to get a water based AiO cooler, especially if you're going to overclock it, but some people like the robustness of the simpler HSF designs. And the Dark Rock Pro 4 is able to handle this CPU with all cores at 100% load without going over 90 degrees C.

I'm never going to get rich from this, but it is nice to get something... So if you've watched this video and it influenced or helped you then please click Like and Subscribe.

I built my first PC recently and all of a sudden I start to notice this annoying ticking sound coming from my Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4. I started to think it was the PSU because that's what my google diagnosis was telling me. I finally found this video and while I didn't have to set my fan speed as high as you did, I just tweaked it a little bit and The annoying ticking sound was gone. I don't normally comment on videos but I just had to thank you for making this and helping me because the answer was no where else online and without this video I was thinking I did something wrong or something was about to break. THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

I finally fixed it. This noise was driving me crazy and I assumed my mainboard or CPU were faulty. I even messed around with the CPU efficiency/power-saving BIOS settings (C State etc.) because the noise only appeared when the CPU was idle. Thank you for the video!!!

For me I get the ticking noise when I first start the computer. Then when I restart it, it gets really loud when I first start it.

Strange, my BeQuiet Shadow Rock 3 has the same ticking sound, but I already have it at 50-60% steady. Just noticed the coilwhine on my 4070 ti too, noise like it annoys me so much 😁

Thank you so much for this video! I couldn't find anything that even came close to what I am experiencing with the new MainGear laptop got. One question. My problem seems to be intermittent and happens about every 15-20 seconds. It seems to be coming from the front part of the laptop and only seems to happen when I open an app or start doing something like playing a video. Do you think it could be another issue? The laptop is full SSD and doesn't have a HDD. I am really hoping its the same issue you just described. This laptop is perfect and functions flawlessly...minus that very faint clicking noise that you can barely hear. I really don't want to have to exchange it.

Thanks again! Much appreciated!!!

I have the same issue when my laptop is idling. Should I be alarmed? I never notice any performance issue.
I'm using Acer Aspire 3 A315-21

But the Sound it self is nothing serious or a Problem, which can lead to any defects right? Have the Same cooler and a ryzen 7 5800x

I have basically the same build as you mentioned but my fan is running at around 2100rpm and it's making the clicking noise that's really annoying me. Is this the same solution?

I also have BeQuiet cpu cooler, i ran some game to run for some time and exited so fans can lower speed down and during that my PC made similar weird ticking noise that lasted for some time untill pc returned completely to idle. I did turn off pc case fans to isolate sound while running game so temps were higher in pc so when i exited game to cool it down it started happening. Could that be the issue?
