1-Minute Repairs: Mystery grinding noise from PC fans! #shorts

This is a super quick repair video for how to diagnose and fix a grinding fan noise coming from your PC. This Athlon II-era desktop had never ever been cleaned or opened before in its lifespan of over a decade living in an old lady's carpeted flat - it had accumualted a lot of dust! I cleaned the interior of the PC out with compressed air and then lubricated the PSU fan (making sure not to electrocute myself).

Tip: Don’t ever open up computer power supplies unless you know what you’re doing

I was having the exact same issue, I went as far as to order an entirely new PSU, but then I stumbled upon this video and managed to do it myself. I've now cancelled the order I made. The fan sounds great again. Cheers mate.

Hii just came to say thanks, you fixed a 3 month old issue for me, my fan has been deteriorating for a while now and this week it's been it's loudest with the grinding noise and this time it wasn't going away. I was looking intro replacing the PSU or fan at minimum but this video genuinely saved me and I'm almost annoyed it was this simple. I had no idea fans could open up so the moment I saw this I ran to my garage for lubricant and 2 mins later my PSU is quieter than it's ever been so genuinely thanks

This might be the most concise yet comprehensive video I've ever seen on fixing a computer cooling fan. It was nice to see you take it a step further than just cleaning the dust out of the computer, seems like most tutorials just stop there.

Thanks man it really helped. I've been ignoring this problem for more than 2 years now. I always clean my cabinet but it always makes noise I still didn't know till this date it made noise from power supply. And when I saw your steps., I was kind of hesitatant because what if it cause more problem. But then again I thought why not. So i tried to unscrew the screw and clean the power supple. And took me an hour to finish to clean and put the screw back carefully and voila it worked.also thank you once again

Can you make a laptop version? My laptop fan sometimes decides to make a weird similar noise but it has less pitch and it's more delayed.

That’s awesome! Very brave opening up a PSU, would never be me I’d be a magnet to the capacitors 🧲

2 Tips. Keep compressed air upright. Don’t shake it or spray it all around. The propellant is a liquid and you can literally blast your pc with freezing liquid. Also ALWAYS do this when your pc is off.

3 in 1 oil doesnt last too long, i use motor oil on mine i fill the part under the cap then put the cap on wipe away the excess oil with some iso tape over it then put the sticker back on to prevent leaks. it lasts a few years over 3 in 1 oil lasting 6-8 months

Thank You🙏. Finally I fixed it today!😊 Hopefully this problem won't come again.
I don't have lubrication oil so I used cooking oil and it still worked😅
