“West Wants Russia To Suffer Strategic Defeat” l Lavrov On Ukraine War

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov blamed the West's reaction for prolonging the war in Ukraine. Lavrov was speaking at the Raisina Dialogue here in New Delhi. Lavrov added that western leaders have repeatedly stated that Russia must suffer strategic defeat in Ukraine.
Putin's foreign minister also reiterated that Moscow has repeatedly warned the West to stop the NATO expansion.

Look how long it’s taking countries who could “check every box” (Sweden, Finland) to join NATO. It takes extensive pre-requisites and a unanimous vote, and that’s after a formal and public invitation. Twelve years passed between the time North Macedonia applied in 2008, and when they were officially accepted in 2020. Ukraine hadn’t even been offered the opportunity to apply to join NATO when Russia invaded. They hadn’t even been offered a timeline to have an opportunity to apply, so they were at best, years away from joining the alliance. And it wasn’t until 4 years after Russia annexed Crimea, and continued their attacks from Luhansk and Donetsk that Ukraine began reconciling with Russia’s future expansion goals, and seeking out alternate security guarantees. Russia pushed Ukraine towards NATO, then attacked them for it years before there was any real perceived threat. Putin’s administration knows this well, and only continue to repeat these falsehoods because people continue to be naive.
