A little rock history can't hurt
Smoke on the water has its origins in the fire at the Montreux casino in Switzerland, which occurred on the evening of December 4, 1971, 50 years ago
On the evening of December 4, Franck Zappa gives a concert in this famous Casino, with his group The Mothers of Invention.
But suddenly, one of the spectators fires a distress pistol into the wooden ceiling, which obviously ignites like a torch.
In the audience is Ian Gillan, one of the band members Deep Purple.
The man with the gun was right next to him, but he didn't have time to stop him.
As the Casino burns, the group Deep Purple sits on the balcony of the Eden Palace, watching the thick black smoke slide over Lake Geneva.
The title is then all found: "Smoke on the water", recorded in the following days in Montreux, this time at the Grand Hotel, where the group finished recording their album.
A 4-note riff, played by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, goes down in rock history as one of the most famous guitar riffs.
As for the words, they relate exactly their misadventure of this evening of November 4, 1971.
