The Magnus Archives by Rusty Quill is quite honestly the scariest horror I have ever experienced, as well as the most cohesive mythology in any series I have enjoyed. So let me share with you why The Magnus Archives is so meaningful to me.

"befriends her neighbor" is a very generous way of saying she stalked him

a few quick mentionable things for anyone going into the Magnus Archives:
- do not get attached to characters
- you will get attached to the characters
- pain, but in a good way
- oh and be aware of nightmares :)

A small, but really significant thing that Jessie didn't mention here, is that the creator, Jonathan Sims, has publicily expressed his dislike of horror tropes that revolve around sexual violence and animal abuse and/or death. He has promised that there will never be onscreen sexual violence or animal violence in The Magnus Archives, and as someone who is caught up on the series, he has stuck to his word. It's really, really nice to know that your faves are not about to be r**ed or fridged - and the series is no less scary or horrifying without it.
Update: the series has now officially ended, and Sims held his promise. ❤️

I feel like calling it "Lovecraftian" is doing it a disservice. The series created an entirety new mythos that more or less creates a framework for looking at all other horror stories. It deserves to stand on its own

It's also extremely gay and makes me cry

Season 5 so far has been, in the words of the director Alexander J Newall, "mostly eldritch romance", and I am HERE FOR IT

The Magnus Archives (especially the last season) has been oddly comforting to listen to during the pandemic.

Oh wait, for anyone who wants to listen take this into account first: *This show is a tragedy and will not end with a. Happily ever after.* that's no spoiler, jonny (the author) wants you to know that and hes said it publicly and loudly MANY times. If you think that might bring you undue or excessive emotional strain, probably dont listen!

As soon as I heard the second episode, the one with the guy ignoring the coffin that's in his living room, I knew I could relate with and jive with these characters

One of my early favourites was the one from the perspective of a bin man just finding horrific things being left outside of this house. Just really enjoy different POVs to horror stories.

HP fandom : Which house would you live in? 😊

Percy jackson fandom : Which God's powers would you have?😊

Avatar fandom : which element would you control?😊

TMA fandom : which cosmic entity would feed into your deepest fears, consuming and sucking you dry until you're left as a just a shell of your former self now feeding on the fear of others in the same way as you fed the entity, the same entity that was once your torturer, but is now your salvation? 😊

This is a great pitch for the magnus archives! Another thing I’ve seen said is that the magnus archives is especially horrifying in just how....mundane the horror is? Like none of these people really did anything to “deserve” what happened to them—they didn’t go into the spooky woods when they were told not too, or buy the probably-haunted house, or go down into the spooky basement. They were just doing as they normally did when they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I think that is part of what makes it so unsettling, there’s no “well if they had just been smart they wouldn’t have done xyz and then they would have been fine!”

4:00 or so.
Now you say "friend" but I think the creepiest part of this episode is how little they know each other. The speaker just spends a ton of time watching him even though they are acquaintances

I never realized how many things actually terrify me until I started listening to this podcast. I had a visceral reaction to the cave diving episode and it was kind of amazing.

The only bad part of TMA is that it's terminal - you cannot consume any other horror media afterward without ascribing an entity to it.

Also by season three you start to wonder, "Jee, Jonathan seems to be collecting a lot of injuries from people connected to the entities.. Is that like a habit of his?" 😆 Oh boy.... Oh boy.

I love the Magnus Archives so much. I came to terms with my asexuality and biromanticism a few days before I started to listen to it and cried happy tears when I found out that the main character was the same as me. I knew about some ace rep in the media but it was never that deep, mostly just trashy YA series and soaps, but the fact that I found myself represented in a complicated and dark horror story was absolutely amazing. Jon is very important to me.
I guess I felt good about finally... being seen 👀
