Great explanation here! Gym owner & Professional Trainer here of 15 years. I could not have said it better myself. I have a client who has knee issues and I sent her this video to help her understand the difference/ importance of doing lunges whether they're modified or not. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried going in reverse as shown, but both my knees pop and creak, and pain prevents me from going even half way down.

If the front knee was the problem, this might help. It’s the knee on the back leg that buckles in pain the instant I try to lower even a bit, no matter which way I try to lunge. Right knee worse than the left. Any other modifications for that?
