The Cheapest Dual-GPU Graphics Card You Can Buy

Показать описание
Today we're looking at the Quadro NVS 420, a once $500 graphics card that can now be picked up for less than 10% of that. Unlike a lot of others in the Quadro line-up, this one boasts two G98 GPUs on a single board, so how does that help it out, and can it play games?

Thanks for watching :)

I want to see a tournament that doesn't let you enter unless you have below a certain spec of hardware, it would be hilarious to watch people truly struggle against each other and their equipment

I feel honoured to see such a odd piece of hardware

Fun fact, the fan costs more than the card. Also, it's available in PCIe x1 flavor, and the NVS 450 is essentially this card but full height and passively cooled

Tesla? Oh man, that architecture was a beast back in the day. When they polished it up a bit, I got a GeForce 9600 GT that ran like a dream. Good times.

We used a similar NVS card for Air Traffic Control system years back. Low framerate but hi-res in that application.

The main purpose of the NVS cards has always been to have a high number of concurrent displays from one system. One of the best places I've seen this implemented is in airports, displaying flight updates through the terminals. Since frame rate it's not a concern these are excellent at that task. Another example would be the New York stock exchange.

If it wouldn't be the old tesla gpu, you'd be able to pull more FPS from Quadro cards by changing the usage mode and disable the calculating / computing mode and it would be basically a normal GPU.

A really interesting one of these dual gpu cards is the NVS 810. IIRC it's basically two NVS 510s on one pcb (same chip as the GT 710) so as far as I know it's the only 8 display output card.

Since the g98 Core can only be found in the 9500GT which supports SLi, (but might be uncommon to find a bridge model) going for a G84 core and doing 8600GT SLi may be a fun comparison video, though i've found 8800GTs are easier to get ahold of for a multi-gpu setup..of course it will likely smoke this 420..but by how much?

I've tested the NVS 295 I had lying around for many years, it's slightly worse than this.
I really never saw before this monitor output. :')

This GPU is only really good enough for those that want to have 4 monitors at once, on the lowest possible budget. For most cases, most modern iGPU's will beat this, and if you're really and truly on a budget, you can probably pick up a GPU that doesn't have the requirement of an expensive £20 adapter for the displays, or some sort of proprietary display output.
It's also only really good enough for older systems, especially if modern systems (like the 13th gen i5 motherboard) don't actually support GPUs like these!

It’s interesting to actually see a dual-core GPU on a low-profile GPU bracket 🤯💪🥰. It would be awesome if modern GPUs actually were this size ….. even if they were dual-RTX3050 performers 🥰😇

Hi Random, i have some older components going free to a good home. I was given a pc case with a motherboard/ GPU power supply. I couldn't tell you off the top my head what they are but more than happy to donate them if they would be of any use.

I bet the adapter for the monitors costs more than the card ... Fun video to watch though.

Seeing the Quadro NVS 420 running Far Cry 3. Reminded me of the Atari ST back in those days.

End of 2019 I finished Far Cry 3 on my old laptop i5 4300u 8gb dual channel SSD and had around +-20-25 FPS in 720p low
