8 piles of fitness nonsense we're all desperate to believe, because if it were true, getting in shape would be easy. Sadly it's not...

But whether it be blaming all our non-gains on supplements, the magical post-workout protein shake, being scared of cardio or the goal to try and sweat, there's a lot of stupid stuff out there in gym land which is easy to believe. Why wouldn't you?

Let's put it to bed, though, so hopefully we never have to fall for it again!

You're only in competition with yourself; working out is so much more fun when you understand this

While I love feeling sore after a workout, it’s DEFINITELY not necessarily a good indicator of the quality of your workout nor is it directly correlated to whatever gains you’ll see from your workouts.

DOMS is usually the result of changing something in your workout such as incorporating new exercises or movements that target different muscles that aren’t often worked, or a dramatic change in intensity/volume, etc….. Great video Simon 💪

DOMS should be the name of a new chain of gyms

As a woman, the whole "don't want to get bulky" thing annoys me! You're not just going to wake up one morning with a different body composition! It's especially frustrating when women say it because you need the testosterone of a man to "look like" a man 🙄

Great advice all around.
I am 6'6" and not naturally heavily built. This has an effect on the results from my workouts. I will never look like Thom Hardy or Chris Evans. I'm a different type. But after years of modestly increasing weights and maintaining some solid cardio, I am noticeably bigger and stronger. I'll never look perfect, partially because there are things I am not willing do - like eat 12 chicken breasts a day - or completely give up beer - but I accept that and try to look at things from there.

I was clearing scrub from around the summer house (it was there when we bought the house) and junk that had been left there since 2009 by the builders (found a copy of a tabloid rag)... so it was long overdue and I was sweating so much I had to go and have a shower. (my watch also recorded 97 minutes of exercise)
I sweat easily my preferred temperature is below 20C... when I was fitter a PT in my gym asked me to come along when it was closed to get photos done for his website.. he wanted shots of someone swearing hard... 10 minutes pushing hard on a spin bike and I was dripping.
As you say some people sweat easily some struggle and some don't and they have a real issue.

The worst part about this video is that I was eating an ice cream when you were talking about abs. I'd love to have abs on show but hey I guess I like ice cream more! Great video as always Simon.

I'm really glad you made this video because it will help some people clear out the nonsense pushed so hard into their heads and hearts by others with bad agendas. Back in the days when I hit the gym, I boosted the effectiveness of my workouts by starting my lifting workout with at least 10 solid minutes of cardio. It really made the rest of the hour so much better and in many ways much easier to lift more weights for longer.

I do golf & hill walking for cardio. The idea of 30-45 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical machine bores me to tears. I get why we avoid it...

Anyone else curious to know what Miller is doing at the gym these days?

Came for the fitness advice. Stayed for the snarky undertones and manic rants. Subbed

Great stuff. I only get doms when I start again after a week off. I only really ever sweat during cardio as well. I hate: carbs are bad & you can spot reduce fat..😑

Gotta add the good old one: "You can turn your fat into muscle". Two people who don't lift (or do any physical exercise for that matter) vehemently preached this to me last year. I thought this was dead years ago. They literally told me to "bulk up" through "eating McDonalds every day". Insisted that they've seen "these big guys in their home country do it", or something. Sure.

I actually feel like getting in shape is easier than staying in shape. Reaching your fitness goals is what initially motivates you.

But imagine that you're running a marathon and when you reach the end you discover that there is no finish and it lasts the rest of your life.

Being able to keep up the discipline and dedication it takes week after week, month after month, and year after year is a daunting task.
