Thank you Bernie! I am a RN. We see people going to ER all the time due to no PCP available. Also compounding the issue, ER MD’s do not do follow up care so disease states are not being prevented/managed only triaged. It’s very sad to see! Thank you for addressing these issues!❤

Thank you Bernie, there is a huge need for nurses across the healthcare spectrum. As a post-acute and long term care NP there major staffing shortages in nursing homes it impacts patient care. Pay nurses what they deserve and staff appropriately, we more unions. Hold these companies accountable.

Thank you again Bernie for fighting for us, between big pharma, corporate greed, you at least fight for 🇺🇸. We don't see that with most our so called representatives. I'm tired of bullshit on both sides

My wife is an RN and has seriously considered leaving healthcare altogether because of the perpetual issues: underpaid, understaffed, undersupplied, and overworked. Her benefits are also horrible. We need to find a way to not only add more healthcare professionals to the work force at a faster rate, but also slow the rate of burnout. I see a positive feedback loop here, where being understaffed causes staff to quit, thus making the understaffing issue even worse and causing more staff to quit. Right now, one of the only things keeping healthcare staff like my wife where they are is the fact that they care about their patients, but you can't take care of others when you aren't doing well.

Bernie, I have to share this w you. A 24 yr old young man who I've known since he was 10 yrs old was buried today. He froze to death outside during the artic blast in Texas, a couple of weeks ago. The autopsy is underway but he was a diabetic who could not afford his insulin. He was in and out of the hospital for yrs. It was his only option when he got ill from not having insulin he needed to survive. He would turn to street drugs for relief. This is the first time I've been personally affected by the very issue you have been fighting for all these yrs.
Also, my husband is a pediatrician. He is 70 yrs old and we can't afford for him to retire. He now works 3 days a week. However, he stays in his office at home the other four days, inputting medical records. It is ridiculous. Not sure he would chose to be a physician again since big corporations has taken over his profession.
Thank you Bernie for all you TRY to do for the American ppl.

The morning of New Year's Eve I went to an emergency room at 8am. I was triaged within minutes. *THEN* I sat in the waiting room for 7 hours! By 3pm I was tired of waiting and getting nowhere. I was told the more serious patients get taken care of first after seeing patients go in with limping legs and here I was with a valve in my heart that was not working very well. I left and went to another hospital emergency room and I was taken in immediately. Then I was admitted for 10 days at that hospital. Just recently I got a bill from the original hospital. I think my balance was $50 after they submitted my claim for triage for $450 and some change. I was ticked that they submitted that claim after they took my temperature and my blood pressure and asked me how tall I was and how much I weighed. Highway robbery. I sure hope I can reverse that claim with Medicare. I am 70 years old.

Listening to Bernie speak, I get some hope that we’ll get serious about the problem. And then… the other side starts talking.

As I listen to ms. Szantos talk all I hear is "we need to make sure you're rich enough to even begin to think about being a nurse"
She's talking (necessarily) about school, housing, food everything that is required for a person to get through school and all I hear is $$$$! I can't even begin to think about school at 40. It's not practical. It's not possible. I don't even bother looking into furthering my education or quality of life because every system seems set up against me. I'm too poor and if I take out loans then I'll just be more broke. Can't afford health care can't afford children I can barely even afford my fracking cat and myself
I just love how other countries are like "yeah, not a problem, we will at the very least train you for free, we simply know that we need more ppl in this profession and you being born poor isn't your fault" what a mind blowing concept

HOW does Rand Paul sit there and yap about being pro choice, how we should be more like other countries, tell us we should be more like them and those friggin countries ARE pro choice and they HAVE social can not believe this man is a licensed doctor. Shocking

The reason we have such a shortage is because it’s so expensive to go to college for these professions. My daughter went to school for dental hygienist, besides the tuition costs she had to pay for the two years, she had to pay $600 for the written test and over a $1, 000 for the practical test. She also paid out over $2, 000 for ocular eye ware. This was on top of tuition and any books or equipment she had to buy. She did get a good job shortly after graduating but why does this education have to be so much more expensive here compared to other countries. I can’t even imagine what it costs to go school to become a doctor or dentist.

In 2011 after I was diagnosed with cancer I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. I had very good health insurance and it was impossible to get the treatment that I needed because no one would help me, they offered other services that were unrelated, but there was no treatment available.
