I wouldn’t call it a superhero story, there’s only about 2 characters in the entire game who treat you like that. More of a revolution story mixed with espionage thriller

P4:Has Nanako
P5:Dosent have Nanako

P4:Has Adachi
P5:Adachi appears on TV in a very specific day
Conclusion:P4>P5

In terms of graphics one is a PS2/mobile game and the other is a PS3 game. That being said I love the games and am aware that the only way the sheer amount of content was possible is cutting down on the visual fidelity. I'm hoping the budget of P6 allows for modern day visuals whilst keeping the large story/feature sets of the previous games.

Persona 3 - better in terms of dark story, summoning personas (evoker) and protagonist

Persona 4- better in terms of friendship, story progression and antagonist

Persona 5 royal - Better in terms of gameplay, social links and overall theme of the story

Playing judgement now, i found it hard to call p4 a detective story. They introduce Naoto so late for the cast to do any meaningful investigation before her. Most of time they spend on some ''fun'' group events with lot of jokes rather than doing the investigation. The game make it seems that the only way to found the culprit identity is through the connection with the shadow even though in later parts Dojima, someone without any knowledge about that world was the first one to identity the first suspect when certain someone got kidnapped also when the group confronts the final suspect, dojima was also there cause he also reach similar deduction as them through the old crude method of investigation.

For the phantom thief, i wouldn't exactly call them a superhero, yes they did it for justice, but at the very core its still a crime... changing a person heart without permission. They are more of a vigilante tbh and the game atmosphere feels really oppressive compare to the warm and kind Yaso Inaba.

Ultimately, I prefer the gameplay of 5 but I'd want the story of 4. 4 is, overall, better imo.

Persona 4 is like Terminator 1. More personable character moments and progression. P5 is like T2. Bigger in scope, action etc. it's no slouch in the character department as well.

I don't really mind the graphics of Persona 4 Golden. I just like the story better than P5R. More intense and really... You get motivated once Nanako gets k-

*Im sorry*

Idk, it’s kinda confusing as to why everyone still repeats that whole “P3 story, P4 characters, P5 gameplay” meme when things have changed significantly since that meme started (a year or two after P5’s release was when it was started, I was around to see it). In my opinion the Third Semester has the strongest character and story writing throughout the entire modern trilogy. Also people love talking about “plot holes” but almost every single one has been debunked in the past. It’s fine if people prefer the other games but even the people in these comments saying objectively that one is BETTER than the other two but that usually entails misinterpreting each game’s intent. These games aren’t meant to be the same, P5 is supposed to be a supernatural vigilante heist revolution story inspired by Gnosticism and Dante’s Inferno about teenagers rebelling against society (The main character’s Persona being Maurice Leblanc’s Arsene Lupin is telling right off the bat with Lupin being gentleman thief anarchist that wanted only to stick it to the powerful), P4 is a supernatural Japanese murder mystery novel style game inspired heavily by the Kojiki and Japanese culture (This is can be deduced by the characters’ personas and important shadows being different characters and deities from early Shintoism and Japanese tales), and P3 is a supernatural secret operation doomsday story inspired by Greek and Roman culture (again, all of the characters personas being people and deities from Greek and Roman culture). The dynamics of their cast are all relative to the setting and themes of the story. Does it make sense for a group of thieves to be the closest of friends (look at the Lupin III for instance, none of them are really close friends even though they do all of their heists together) or a group of covert secret agents trying to prevent the end of the world being close friends even though they are surrounded by doom and gloom (take Men in Black, are they the closest of friends)? Of course the game about a bunch of kids taking out magnifying glasses and snooping around in their small town would have the closest friend group (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4 is a nearly identical situation where pretty much everyone is each others’ friends, even the villains become friends after they defeat them in Part 4). Each game is different and strives to achieve a different vibe and theme. In my point of view they are all amazing, throwing one under the bus for the sake of propping up the others isn’t correct. P3 Remake is going to happen soon so we’re going to most likely have a P4G remake in the next 10 years.

Honestly, I think 4 has better gameplay. The baton pass mechanic trivialised all encounters by giving your main characters 4 turns per round.

I'd hope a sequel that came out 9 years and two console generations after its predecessor would have way better graphics.

P5 isn’t a superhero story, it’s inspired by picaresque novels. Like Robin Hood, Zorro, and stories like that.

Played both I have to say the persona 4 cast had a more wholesome relationship.

The persona 5 cast was more badass though.
