Recently purchased a Philips VA panel, and other than the discoloration when viewing at extreme angles, I can't say that I'm noticing any of the other issues being brought up by tech sites.
I'm pretty happy with my VA purchase.

Basically it comes down to what annoys you the least....

VA - black smearing, worse viewing angles, mostly curved

IPS - horrible contrast, possible IPS glow/back light bleed, flat except for ultrawides

Samsung with their high end VA panels, give you the best features from both in theory, but they have an extreme curve and bad quality control considering the price.

OLED would be perfect for everything if it didn't have the burn-in risk, wasn't so expensive, and have so few choices for different sizes, refresh rates, and resolution.

13:09 The IPS seems to give deeper greens in the background here and looks much better as a result IMO.

So the VA has more contrast but the IPS has better image quality, thats interesting because you'd think contrast has a large affect on image quality.

Here’s my take after doing my own research:

1) Most reviewers don’t adjust their settings properly, and IPS tend to have better settings out of the box. So many have the impression that VA doesn’t have better color.
But that’s not true, VA nowadays have improved their color substantially.
Just look at it this way, how can a monitor produce better color when it cannot produce proper black?

2) Ghosting may not be that apparent as you think. Most of the time only for those super hardcore gamers, who are nitpicking monitors.
3) viewing angle problem most likely fixed across most brand

Rocking dual monitors, I actually prefer VA it has deeper blacks, not OLED level, but a hundred times better than IPS where the backlight is very noticeable.

Definitely VA for me, the blacks are simply too washed out on the IPS. I’ll take 3000:1 over 1000:1 any day.

I'm so confused. In the beginning starting at 00:08 it literally looks like the one on the right is the VA panel and the one on the left is the IPS. The one on the right has way more contrast and basically 0 glow while the one on the left has less contrast and glow like hell. Then when you showed the viewing angles I was mistaken, but what is going on here? Is there a light shining directly on the VA or could it be that the VA just doesn't have proper settings set. Thx for the video!

Just subbed! Really informative and at the same time, got me overthinking even more :D What do you think about the Samsung G50 model compared to the Gigabyte M27 (talking about IPS), and also the Gigabyte G27 curved (VA)... I'm constantly changing my mind about which one to get, I'm not every into competitive gaming, I love games like The WItcher or RDR2, and I'm drawn to the contrast advantage of the VA, but the IPS has a wider color specter, and I don't know which type would showcase those games better...
Came here for information, but will stay for the content! Cheers!

Hi, I'm planning to buy a 27" monitor and can't decide between 3 monitors...
I play some games just for fun, when I can, watch some movies and the rest is the normal use.
I know that for my profile, I'd be better off with and IPS flat screen but.. all my choices are curved and VA screens. :P
My choices are:
- AOC Gaming 27" C27G2ZE VA FHD 240Hz FreeSync 0.5ms
- Dell 27" S2721HGF FHD 144hz FreeSync Premium 1ms
- AOC Gaming 27" C27G2ZU VA FHD 240Hz 0.5ms FreeSync

I know the Dell monitor is one your favourites in this "range" and that's why it shows on my list, but from these 3 which one would you buy?
Thank You and congrats for the great channel!

90% of the gamers are casual, only 10% are pro gamers/ you tubers /esports, so doesn't really matters the ips speed for most of them

the philips VA panel, what response times does it have at 60 hz? Will it work well for consoles where many games run at 30 or 60 fps? Thank you for your work

I don't think viewing angles in monitor matters because you will be always sitting in front of it.
