Diesel informs me that he did use chroma keying... My bad. Not sure why he needed it when ili was on a white background...

0:42 "as high as 120"hz. Oh my, how times have changed with 360hz monitors already almost available (tho that is admittedly a little bit overkill)

I'd love to see an update on this: How much have changed over the years (when it comes to: contrast, colour reproduction, viewing angle, update frequency, response time (let's say MPRT), etc.)? How does a modern monitor compare to the ones from 2010-2013 (or let's say 2011, 2015 and 2019)?

I'm asking as when I (lazily) try to find information it seems like time has stood still for monitors/panel types for the last 6-9 years (when it comes to the general description), so how does- a modern TN compare to older IPS/VA, a modern IPS compare to older VA/TN and a modern VA compare to older IPS/TN?

E.G. Does a modern TN still have worse viewing angles/colour reproduction than an old IPS/VA monitor (or is it just compared to new monitors they're considered worse, for that)?
How many of the subgroups are still valid options/in production?

So lets say that I'm comparing monitors for around 500 $ (+- 100 $). E.G. How would a modern TN (for 500 $) compare to an IPS from 2011 and 2015 (for 500-600 $) when it comes to colour reproduction viewing angles etc.? And vice versa.

So isn't the TN better for privacy?

Everywhere I look I seem to see Linus, good to see someone become so recognizable with accurate and well informed tech information. Keep up the good work Linus!

Va my favourite because of those exceptionally good blacks

Linus should do an Updated Video about this in 2019 or 2020.

Actually the term ghosting is used interchangeably with motion blur.

We finally got our new light kit to fill in the background (took like a month). We still need some gels to get the colour temperature the same as our Kinos though...

VA is clearly the best, as it has the most advantages with the least amount of disadvantages.

TN:
+ Fastest response times
+ Most inexpensive
- Awful viewing angles
- Awful gamma/color shift from top to bottom, even if viewed from straight on
- Sub-par colors and color accuracy
- Sub-par contrast/black levels

IPS:
+ Most color accurate
+ Best viewing angles
- Slow response times
- Awful contrast/black levels
- Awful IPS glow on dark scenes
- Most vulnerable to backlight bleeding
- Suffers from image retention or temporary burn-in

VA:
+ Best contrast/black levels
+ Great viewing angles (although not as good as IPS)
+ Can be even more color accurate than IPS (i.e. with Quantum Dot)
+ Very little to no backlight bleeding or glow
- Slow response times, similar to IPS
- Suffers from minor gamma shift (nowhere near as severe as TN)

thanks, linus. this helped me teach my friend (whos not as much of a computer nerd as i am) on what types of monitors he should get

Didn't mention the awful black levels (ie grey) of IPS. It's much more important to be able to see details in a night scene than to care about an extra 6ms response time or that extra 4% of the sRGB colour space.

Almost 2020. Probably one of the older vids that deserves an update. :)

I like like how he's just balancing a bloody GRAPHICS CARD at the end of this video.
