🇪🇺 🇮🇷 Can the EU bypass US sanctions on Iran? | Inside Story

When it was signed in 2015, the Iran nuclear agreement was hailed as a landmark deal.
But with the US withdrawal earlier this year and threats of punishing those who do business with Tehran, European leaders have been left trying to figure out a way to protect their companies and save the agreement.
The Trump administration says it will reimpose some of its toughest sanctions on Iran in November.
That has led some companies to abandon their plans in Iran.
The Europeans say they are setting up a new payments mechanism that will allow companies to continue trading goods and oil with Iran.
Russia and China support the plan but it's not clear how it will work.

So, can companies and traders withstand the US response?

Maybe Corbin's idea to create at least one UK state-owned energy company to oppose the monopoly of the big five companies in the UK wasn't that bad of an idea. If every EU state had such company they would have used those to buy Iran oil without fear of sanctions US.

As little as I know about sanctions, it appears that the US threatens trade with all other nations who would trade with Iran. In other words, if any company sells or buys from Iran, the US will no longer buy from or sell to that company.

If Iran gets Yuan, and Iran buys in China .. What could China not deliver? .. you can even get a Meg-Lev made in China. They could even re-export BMW out of China.
They can make pretty much everything .. not all in top quality .. maybe not branded .. but still a win-win

plan is chinese rmb is backed by real solid gold and chinese government stated anyone dealing massively with rmb currency, they can exchange it for solid hard gold from chinese gov banks.another one reason why countries are trying to stock up their gold reserves.only way is to stabilise gold prices globally and making sure US does not make gold irrelevant...that will make it US vs world coz everyones banks are backed or should be backed by gold.

Remember Government don"t usually do the trading. When there is a sanction, companies are the one who receive the short end of the sticks. What is at stake are the workers of the company. When ever the USA impose a sanction, what hurts most are the companies that export their goods to that sanctioned country.

Iran’s $400 billion economy vs the U.S.’s $20 trillion economy? It’s really economics 101. European companies doing business in America aren’t going to risk losing access to the U.S. market to do business in Iran.

I love the Iranian people so I’m weary about more sanctions which hurts everyday people. The political elite will probably never feel the bite of sanctions.
