EU leaders are heading into a high-stakes summit for Ukraine. They need to decide unanimously whether to open accession talks with Ukraine and on further financial aid for Kyiv, worth up to €50bn. But one EU country, Hungary, is blocking both attempts.

A referendum should be held whether the EU citizens want Ukraine to join.

EU economy is in recession, but spending hundreds of billions on Ukraine will end EU, once people of Germany and France will demand exit like Britain did.
Even without Germany EU doesn't make any sense, not talking about other large countries leaving.

Article 7 of the EU treaties needs to be invoked. But thanks Poland for blocking that

Quite ironically that Hungary, a consumer of so much EU money and netto recipient of EU funding, is blocking the EU spending.
Honestly, I'm fed up with Hungary. I feel that we should rethink whether we want Hungary in the EU. The country blocks every progressive policy in NATO and EU and assists Russia and China in doing so. But western institutions need to develop! I think that commitment is very important within the EU and that Ukraine is a lot more committed than Hungary.

Kick that Orban out of the table and then from the EU! 😷

Orban wants money. While unanimous vote required anybody can block anything and ask for ransom. Parallel EU must be created with majority or 2/3 principle, current is broken from the start like UN or NATO..

Why does the EU want Ukraine to join the EU so badly?

Throw Hungary out of EU, it’s becoming a roadblock to every EU attempt at almost everything.

There is an easy fix to this problem. Hungary leaves the EU to join BRICS and Ukraine takes its place. Then Orban can fence Hungary off from the EU and dig a Hyper-Loop tunnel to Moscow.

It was always a daft idea to allow any single nation to alone veto either EU or NATO decisions. At the very least and probably also, the ability to eject a nation from these groupings would e been sensible. All this was so easily predicted as a possibility.

I don’t blame him for not sending money to the most corrupt country in Europe

Ukraine in the EU would mean the net-contributing countries would lose their majority in the EU parliament.
It would also mean 10s of billions in annual subsidies to the huge Ukrainian agrarian sector.

Regarding to the 50 billion, which our very democratic politicians wants to play sugar daddy with, and send platinum signals, doesnt the average EU citizen deserve at least some explanation, that on exactly what do Ukrinians want to spend it? Why would they be in a better condition if they continue fighting instead of suing for peace? What do they want to achieve with that sum? Seriously I want to know. If I go to the bank to ask for a loan, they ask me about my business plans and evaluate them.

So that means Russia will be in EU, nice😂

Unanimity was a gross mistake in the European constitution. It opens the door to this sort of blackmail.

This would NOT be an issue if Russia had NOT invaded a neighboring country.
The whole idea of NATO is to unify Western Europe and provide a defense from USSR/Russia.
Russia is showing the importance of having NATO and EU.
A defense of Ukraine is a defense of EU.

The short-sightedness of Western Europe is astonishing and laughable. The further east a country is, the knowledge and intuition decreases. Here's a recipe - make a note of what's upsetting about Poland as a member of the EU, multiply it by 10 and out comes the deal with Ukraine.
