Where are the worst cities to live in America? They are the places with the worst crime, lowest incomes, low home prices, and not much to do, nor bright futures.

Our goal is to combine recent data, fun videos, and thoughts about local culture into bite-sized snacks of shareable information. We call it bite-sized regional infotainment. We try to paint a picture of what’s happening in a region based on “Friday Night Science” — how’d you argue at a bar. To do that, we gather data from around the web to help determine a wide array of factors about where you live, things like safety, desirability, and culture.

Camden, NJ, none of your top 10 comes close to the burned out, murder capital of the US, nothing good in Camden, crime, poverty, burned out row homes, etc

As a Memphian, who was also briefly a 911 dispatcher, I agree with your #1. No im not working on making the city better and im still complaining. Im working on moving away from here like a lot of us. There has been a dark cloud over this city for many years now, but lately... its just REALLY bad.

St Louis has been one of the most dangerous cities in America for years. How did they not make it in the top ten???

Sad about San Bernardino. I am from Chile. My dad was a foreign exchange student there in 1963 and he loved it. He said it was a nice place, with nice weather, people were friendly, very sad.

I'm shocked that my hometown of Flint, Michigan isn't on the list. Maybe because crime is down due to no one is around to steal from or shoot at anymore.

I live in Toledo, Ohio... directly connected to Detroit and Dayton via I-75, and Cleveland by the 80/90 turnpike. *(chuckles) I'M IN DANGER*

Here are some good things about your number 1 city of Memphis. It has more trees per square mile than any other city in America. It is built right in the middle of a forest, so everywhere they don't cut down the trees, the trees keep growing. Secondly, Memphis pulls its water from the Memphis Sands Aquifer, which is 2000 feet down below us, and the water is over 4, 000 years old. It is sand filtered so it is very pure. Only 2 processes are done to it-- flouride is added and it is aerated. Thirdly, Memphis is cheap. Rent is reasonable and groceries are inexpensive. There is no tax on income in Tennessee, and our utility bills are very cheap because we get power from TVA. Electricity is 9 cents a killowatt hour. Compared to Tampa at 24 cents, or San Fran at 36 cents, utility bills are cheap. The city also has green grass and foliage every where, and hardwood 5 story high trees that absorb air pollution, and absorb sound pollution.

Whoever complied this list never had to endure a day in Camden, NJ. The only reason is because the cities 2/3 empty now and under 100, 000. But it cannot get any worse.

It would be interesting to see a list of the "most improved" cities. I can recall how South Bend IN, Chattanooga TN, Knoxville TN, Greenville & Spartanburg SC used to be really run-down "shit hole" cities back in the 70s. But today they are all sparking, lovely places. They transformed dramatically. Also, Bogota, Colombia, has transformed since the 90s when it was a DISASTER. I would love to hear about the places that got smart (or lucky) and managed to improve dramatically.

Born in Jackson and been trapped here for a while. Stay the heck away unless living miserable sounds appealing. Been robbed, shot at, and arrested for crimes I didn’t commit...several times

I live in Shreveport, Louisiana . The past few years Shreveport has attained the nickname, The Ratchet City. I’m sorry to say that ratchet pretty much says it all. But I love Louisiana. It’s really a great state. The people here are down to earth good folks. They will welcome a stranger and feed you the best food you’ve ever had! It’s hard to find better food anywhere than Louisiana. If you love jazz, like I do, New Orleans is the place to be. But yes, Shreveport is not the city I grew up in. I’ve been here 61 years and it is sad to see how things have changed. It’s really strange how even through the ugliness the hearts of the people are still filled with love.
