Be very careful with this, as sometimes substituting an abstract variable with a number will result in an equality that is correct only for that number or only for some numbers.

Little substitutions can be handy.... I always avoid using 2, as 2x2 = 2+2, and can get you in strife.... I'd probably leave out 1 too.... :)

if i’m gonna try substituting numbers i’ll avoid numbers that have a lot of special cases like 0, 1, 2, i usually use stuff like 5 or 7

Try to avoid 1 and 2 cuz 1x1 is 1 and 2x2 and 2+2 is 4
