The asteroid (2008 AG33) is potential hazard near-Earth object. Its size is estimated in the range from 332 meters to 741 meters.
The asteroid (2008 AG33) was discovered on September 27, 2003. This near-Earth object belongs to the Apollo group.
It makes one orbit around the Sun in 645 days. At this time, the asteroid moves away from the Sun at a maximum distance of 292 million kilometers and approaches it at a minimum distance of 145 million kilometers.
The distance of the asteroid (2008 AG33) from Earth is currently 15.39 million kilometers, equivalent to 0.1 astronomical units. Light takes 0 minutes and 51 seconds to travel from the asteroid (2008 AG33) and arrive to us.
This year, the asteroid (2008 AG33) will pass past Earth on April 28 at 08:16 at a distance of 3.24 million kilometers at a speed of 10 kilometers per second.
The next close approach of asteroid (2008 AG33) to our planet will happen on May 03, 2059. On that day, its distance to Earth will be 4.13 million kilometers.
Besides its huge size, Asteroid 2008 AG33 is also traveling at staggering speed. CNEOS figures indicates that at the time of its close approach, 2008 AG33 will be moving at roughly 23,200 miles per hour. This is around twelve times faster than a rifle bullet.
This massive asteroid is unlikely to hit Earth, however, as per NASA calculations it will pass safely.
NASA's database indicates that there is an even huge space rock to make a close approach to Earth this year, with its diameter estimated to be 1.1 miles across
