Why You Should Ignore Overall Ratings in Career Mode!

Thank you so much to the creator of the Marcuss FIFA OVR Calculator, I used it a lot throughout this video.

I’m sure everyone watching this has had one of those players that's low rated, but plays better than anyone else in your squad. Maybe you preferred using Timo Werner over Thomas Muller, maybe it was Ansu Fati being a better striker than Robert Lewandowski, well today we’re looking at exactly what makes a player perform, and showing how little overall actually matters!

When you sim a game against the team who is bottom of the league it's likely to lose that game. It's so weird

FIFA 22 there was a Thai player who plays in The J League for Kawasaki Frontale called Chanathip Songkrasin, and this guy was crazy good. 27 years old at the time, 71 rated CF but position change to a cam or a winger and he’s 73! Has 5 star skill moves, high agility, balance and acceleration and he’s 5’2, so he feels like he flies and he’s skilful. He’s silky as. The Thai Messi 🇹🇭🐐

One of my fav strikers is an Australian named Mitchell Duke, his ovr is around 65 but really enjoyed using him with Salford CM, he gave me 15-20 goals each season and then scored a deciding goal in his last match in EFL, which help us be the champion, what a legend

Unrelated but you can call up players in your youth academy for the national team that you're managing. You can use these players in international friendlies before promoting them to the senior team at club level

In Fifa 20, Vinicius Jr. was 79 rated but felt like 90+ rated winger. Sure his finishing left a lot to be desired but he was a better player at 79 OVR than Gareth Bale at 85 OVR and Eden Hazard at 91 OVR. Could beat defenders with such ease, it was unbelievable.

I had a player from my academy named Leo Schmidt, in Fifa 21. Only 73 overall, with 80 pace and 75 dribble, but I swear I never played so well with other in Fifa (all fifa). 1860 Munique legend, won the bundesliga and the europa league.

Ive always thought about what if overall ratings or stats wouldnt even be displayed in career mode, it would be cool having to judge by the market value and the players recent performances.
Scouts can be assigned to try and determine their weak foot ability and work rates, reputation.
I think they should att a setting that allowes to do that.

You are right, playing cm for years now. For example Kyogo was one of my best strikers in the last career mode. He was only 77-80 but would make the topscorer in league and CL, so smooth to play, nearly as to play with Messi. Btw nice Channel I watch every video.

For all wide players, I highly recommend sticking them on the opposite side dev plan (make RB’s train to become LB’s etc) as the stats that are improved change as they go up, so they’re always training the stats that make them better for their position and it works wonders - they grow so fast! Only downside is it doesn’t normally upgrade stamina, work rates and weak foot, so bare that mind.

Would love to see a vid on failed wonderkids who could help make a lower division team into a promotion contender. Someone like an Embolo, El Sharaawy, Früchtl, etc.!

Looking purely at overall ratings when signing has been my biggest fifa weakness. Just signing people for the name or 1 particular stat and then founding out they dont play the way you want in the role you had in mind or dont fit with the rest of the team. So hard to break that mindset tho

Training wise, the first thing i focus on is getting each player to High/High and 5*/5*, only after that's done i start looking at the stats (and usually keep it on Balance). Getting the basics in order ensures everyone's doing their job on the pitch, and i can look at who isn't able to keep up and where i need to improve the team.

Another example: underrater fullbacks with less pace.
If they pass and defend well, you can use them as a modern, inverted fullback. They dont need a lot of pace, but they have to pass and defend well, as they help to build up the attack, and stop the opposition on a counter,

I remember that when I used to play fifa 15 back in the day (played it since 2014 to 2019) my favourite striker was Przemysław Kita from Cracovia, he had only about 60ov, wasn't hight or fast. Idk why he was good but I just felt the flow of playing him in cm

I think this FIFA the most stand out player for me it Tom Rothe... LB for Dortmund, who is like 61 rated... He out played strikers and wingers, even netting like 10 goals, and picking up 13 assists in the first season

I completely agree. There are a lot of players that never appear in RTG or rebuilds because of their overall, because the whole season is simulated.
But a question: where can I find out more about what stats different positions need? Like what are the stats that lets you determine with a 15yo Midfielder which position to convert him to, to train him up with his ideal position?

Was wondering if you had a table or something with all of the stat weights for various positions, would be helpful!

For somebody who has played career to death this in depth breakdown is proper interesting for me.

It depends, if it's a little difference in overall or if their both a usable rating. But a 60 rated player is not better than a 90 rated player
