One of the most used and useful implements on any Leatherman multi-tool is the blade. We offer a variety of shapes, edges, materials and coatings. From plain edge to combo styles to types of steel including 420HC and MagnaCut. But how do you know which blade type is best for you?

In this video we will dive into types of knife blades and why you would choose one style over the other. To help narrow down your selection, here are a few products that feature a blade type of material covered in the video.

Straight Blade

The lightweight Skeletool CX features a straight blade that’s perfect for clean cuts, slicing and tasks that require fine control. Bonus: this blade is made from 154CM steel which offers good edge retention and corrosion resistance.

Serrated Blade

The versatile Wave Plus includes both a straight and serrated blade. Turn to the serrated edge when needing to cut through tougher materials like cardboard, rope and burlap.

Combo Blade

The adventure ready Signal includes a combo blade that prepares you for any task.

From our factory in Portland, Oregon, we’re committed to bringing you the best multipurpose products to help you solve expected and unexpected problems in everyday life. Armed with creativity, know-how, and a Leatherman, you're ready for whatever real life throws your way.

I love my Surge. Hope a blade steel upgrade is coming soon. Wouldn’t mind Magnacut on the plain blade and 154CM on the serrated blade 😊

Straight blade on the Skeletool in Magnacut please. Or the ability to choose which blade you want in each tool would give the ability to truly have a better EDC tool. My last two Skeletools have had the jaws snap on regular hand pressure. When I get a new one I have to buy another one of your knives to swap out the combo for a straight.

Weird choice but the straight blade of the ST300. Slender and elegant looking imo

Greetings from Russia! We miss Leatherman a lot. As for me - I prefer a plain blade, but use a serrated blade a lot.

I have a Leatherman wave. Awesome tool but I have trouble sharpening it. I'm wondering what kind of steel it's made of?

I hate the "combo" blade. If you're going to have a serrated blade then just go all the way.
It has to be treated like a serrated blade anyway, so you might as well. You don't sharpen a serrated blade the way you sharpen a regular blade unless you want to end up sharpening away the serrations.
