Hey guys, so I want to let you know that I will not be allowing any “bashing” in the comments. There is no need to be ugly about companies, machines, software, etc. we can have really good discussions without being mean to anyone. If you know me at all you know I’m not going to allow those comments to stay up. Thank you all for being kind in the comments!

I’ve had many Cricut cutting machine for years. I absolutely agree with everything you told your viewers. I started with small projects and no pressure… branched out and kept going. I don’t have a business, but I make lovely things and give them away. It makes me happy. Good job, MayMay. 😀

AGREED! I am a retired animator & motion graphic artist, but was looking for an additional HOBBY that makes something tangible. The cricut was a perfect fit for me. I can even use my animation characters in my projects! Seriously, if you don't LOVE working with computers don't get a cricut.

My sister always calling me for info. I wasn't born knowing how to use it! I watched a million YouTube videos! Upgraded to a Maker couple years ago, love it!

What a sensible video! I wish we could post this in every Cricut group in Facebook for all of those people complaining about the updates, having to get a new computer or not understanding the software! OR wanting to start their business before they know what they’re doing. I love your videos, thanks Maymay

I’ve had my cricut for two years now and there was a point when I was mad that I didn’t do enough research before buying because I didn’t understand it and was very limited to what I was doing with it but the more time that passed the more I learned and understood my machine and now I completely love it! I use it almost every day and while yes it’s frustrating when something goes wrong but it’s also so fulfilling seeing all the things you can do when you understand your machine and know how to use it!

This video should be mandatory viewing for anyone considering a cutting machine! Excellent advice and info, especially the first 3 tips about being honest with yourself about your readiness for research, technology, and change. Thank you for explaining that simply do not have the same capabilities as laptop & desktop computers for software programs. Cutting machines (and their many supplies) are not cheap and it saddens me to continually see so many people saying they have one that's still in the box. Thank you for this, you have a new subscriber! 🙂

My daughter-in-law's mother upgraded her machine and gave me her Expressions machine and 35 cartridges. No computer necessary! I am enjoying it, and still learning what it can do. Even old stuff can still be useful!

I had my cricut for almost two years because it was so confusing and intimidating! Once, I sat down and went through tutorials, it became very easy. I do everything on it now! I do think if I didn't have computer knowledge, there could be no way, I could do it! Very good video, especially for beginners!

I had only heard about Cricut but when I started doing research I found the scan n cut. I’m so glad it looked into everything before I made a purchase. The scan n cut may not be as popular but it does so much more for less. So yes, research is going to be the most important thing you can do before spending this kind of money.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Maymay this is the BEST Public Service Announcement EVER. YOU did a magnificent service with this video. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said especially the part about the computer or tablet. A lot of consumers DON’T realize that these machines need the internet to use them CORRECTLY.

I rarely comment on videos but I feel compelled to comment on this one. As someone who spent approximately 30 years working with, and providing support, for computers and software as my career, in my opinion, this is the best video I have seen on this topic! (and I’ve watched plenty!)😬 I wish it could somehow be made ‘mandatory viewing’ for anyone considering purchasing an electronic cutting machine or asking “which one should I buy?”. Going forward, I plan to provide the link to this video every time I watch a video asking these questions. Great job, Maymay!!!! And, thank you!

Great video. I will be sharing with friends and family who may be considering purchasing a Cutting machine. I do tell them this exact information in my own way, but you are a trusted source who explains things easily understood and to the point. I avoided the Cricut line for years because they required use of their physical expensive cartridges. But in 2014 when the Explore came out I heard mention of a future Print then Cut feature and the ability to upload your own files from non Cricut sites. That fascinated me, as I have lots of digital clipart that I didn't use as much, I didn't like cutting with scissors. So I learned as much as I could about Cricut's print then cut feature and how to use Design Space. I also understood it was a cloud based software to run the machine, so realized I would need a powerful computer. I think that Cricut does need to up their Specs page for letting people know the specs that will give the user the best user experience, as right now they give the very bare minimum, that barely run the software. So with my pre-learning and research, when I finally bought an Explore, I was ready to dive right in on the day my machine arrived at my home . I now have a Maker and am enjoying crafting, still doing mostly print then cut stuff, but having fun. I am lucky that I don't get frustrated as many others do with Cricut's updates, or with changing technology. I go with the flow, and as you mention May May, all of these companies want to help users, not hinder them, but the user has to be willing to learn, be patient and keep pace with change. I am 75, and I think its healthy for me to keep being challenged by learning new things. Happy Crafting, Crafters. Thank you May May for all you do for the crafting community.

I am so glad you made this video I was on the fence for a long time about buying a cricket. My sister has one my friends have theirs and I held back because I am not a computer person. I know a little to get by but I saw my sister use hers and for me it’s just not for me. Thank you so much for putting this video out. I will continue to use my cuttle bug and hundreds of dies and stamps. My happy place 😍😍😍

I love this video! So many times I get asked “please show me how to use my machine”. And I ask, what do you need to know? The answer I get is Everything! It has taken me many hours, years and mistakes to get where I’m at, and I continue to learn new stuff.

Wow, talk about perfect timing. I'm new to this type of crafting and I'm in the "research" phase leading up to my first machine purchase. This video couldn't have been more timely for me. Thanks, MayMay!
I'd like to add one more point: Space. I don't have a lot of space for crafting, especially if the machine has to be in the same room with my desktop computer.

I really appreciate your videos. They are exceptionally informative, but a lot of YouTubers make good videos. I appreciate your topic selections, your personality, your voice, and your approachability. I find your videos very enjoyable to watch.

So true on so many levels. One example, I purchased an ea2 in Nov knowing I could use my android. Got my machine unboxed, cut their sample test and quickly purchased a svg file within hours of receiving my machine. Upon trying to open the file I soon found out files need a computer. Oh no, my heart and ambition rapidly diminished. Thankfully my boss purchased a laptop out of fear when the pandemic started for me to work from home if I were to get sick. I asked if he would mind if I used it for personal use and he agreed. Very blessed now.
