I AM SORRY MR. FRED
Any other floor sleepers here? 👀

I am a floor sleeper. I used to be a horrendous insomniac...it used to take me 2-3 hours to fall asleep in a bed. I found out about floor sleeping and gave it a shot ---found myself falling asleep in less than 15 minutes. It was astounding! So i sold my bed and bought a sleeping bag. I've never had any problems with insomnia since.

I have had terrible lower back pain for the last ten years. It would spasm on average every month, and take about a week to recover. So disheartening. It limited my ability and desire to play sports, to lift things, and even to bend down. For the last 9 months I have been sleeping on the floor (technically a thin yoga mat) and have not had a single day of back pain since. It has honestly changed my life

I''m a 62 year old man, I have been sleeping on the floor for a year now. When camping, I always slept wonderfully on just a thin mattress on the ground in the tent. The hard floor allows your muscles to relax, while a soft mattress causes your muscles to seek support and tighten. Officially I have a mild hip problem, but I don't notice it: by running and sleeping on the ground. I also live furniture free, which gives advantages to being used to the (hard) floor. I like it very much and I (fortunately) don't experience the pain mentioned! I wake up very rested...

I decided long ago to convert my wood bedframe into a flat hardwood surface. Just laid down thick planks. Perfectly like a floor, but not on the floor. It is more elegant than sleeping on the floor. Same result, no bugs.

I am a married lady. I sleep on the floor on a yoga mat and a small pillow. Light blanket to cover me. Sometimes I fall asleep in the bed with my husband, but do not stay there. My posture is already very good. My legs and hips do not feel heavy or stiff in the morning when I sleep on the floor. Great energy level also. I fall asleep almost as soon as I lie down on the floor. I am 69 years young and I love floor sleeping.😎 (I wrote similar comment below to the other married lady)

have been sleeping on the floor for months now and i feel much better for it, you barely ache from working out and feel overall stronger. to start off i recommend sleeping upon many blankets and duvets and slowly, night by night removing them until you have one or two, helps a humongous amount with transitioning into it

I started floor sleeping with a really thin mattress (about 1 inch) of soft polyesther. Soon got pressure sores on buttocks, heels, shoulders - basically anywhere the mat became too compressed. Noticed how native people in Taiwan use a thin bamboo or rattan mat placed on top of the mattress.
So I put a thin bamboo mat on the 2 inch mattress. This solved the problem, the bamboo mat evens out the pressure, as it is stronger than the soft mattress. Have slept very well, and all the previous aches, cramps, back pain and tiredness from sleeping on a regular bed have gone away for good.
Unrelated :
In addition, to stop my sleep apnea I put a couple of micropore tapes vertically over my lips, holding them together. I can still safely breathe through my mouth if needs be, otherwise when asleep will be nasal breathing only, which completely solved the serious issue of sleep apnea I had.

I've been sleeping on the floor most of my adult life. At present, I use a thin style of mat that is the type used in Thailand. I'm 61 yrs old. Born and lived in Toronto my whole life. It is a very multicultural city so I have had many influences from all over the world. I made the transition to the floor in the late 1980s. This and giving up sugar were two of the best lifestyle decisions I have ever made.

I've been sleeping on the floor for over 2 years now because my room is pretty small. I'd say the most glaring benefit of sleeping on the floor is your productivity. You'll wake up straight away because of the hard floor and it forces me to fold my blankets and pillows every morning. Sleeping on the floor is a discipline and productivity hack that would benefit many

One tip, throw out your mattress and put a wooden board on your bed, or an elevated board. While sleeping on the floor you inhale a lot more dust and dirt. So you have the benefits of sleeping higher up and also the benefits of a hard floor.

After over a month of sleeping on the floor my body has fully adjusted and I don’t wake up any longer to adjust positions, it just happens automatically. All of the benefits you discussed are accurate to my experience. I related to the feeling of decompression each day on the floor, where it feels like your spine is just relaxing and getting stretched in all the right ways which feels great.

I sleep on plywood 6 inches above the ground on a yoga mat. Took about a week to adjust. The discomfort you first describe is real. You get exercise just rising from being that low. All of a sudden you see your dogs from a different perspective. Been doing this for years. I have no plans or even think about getting a mattress

I always grew up sleeping on the floor. That feeling of tention leaving your spine when you lay down, is 100% so good. I sleep so well on the floor. Never had sleep issues.

Floor sleeper here. I'm 56 year old stubborn woman with bad back pain. Sleeping on the floor hurt for a month, then turning hurt for another month, now it feels amazing and its hard to go back to sleeping on a bed. I only sleep in a bed when in a hotel with questionable floors. Last night I slept without a pillow and had some pain but I'm sure eventually this will go away too. But I can sit on the floor with a straight back for a long time now, I'm more immediately flexible in the morning, and breathing more into my belly naturally. But I could never explain to anyone why I love it more, I do like that the floor is much cooler, but otherwise, I can just tell that I love it. I just wanted to let people know that it can be painful for awhile.

Sleeping on a bed is obviously unnatural, but sleeping almost directly on a perfectly flat, hard surface is unnatural as well. Having something in between to make it more comfortable, is the best approach for newbies at least

This is something my grandfather taught me to do, especially when one gets older, if you don’t want the “old man” slump, you need to “hit the floor” and do it often. It’s never been an issue for me, I do it often.
