I played this song the night I moved out of my parents while driving out of my hometown. This song will always have a special place in my heart.

This album, and especially this song, holds a special significance to me. My abusive ex was fleeing from a warrant and I went with him. Traveled through the entire country for 6 months, living in my car a majority of the time. We slept on sides of mountains, in deserts, bathed in the ocean.. He was shitty, but the memories I still have, created with myself and others I met, are not. I refuse to look back on that time as just another hard time in my life. The experiences I created along the way were priceless and some I will treasure forever. This album was the soundtrack to that time in my life and I hold it with great reverence.

Cleopatra, by The Lumineers, is an indie folk album consisting of a highly passionate following. Many of the lyrics from all of the songs consist of the singer longing for a relationship with a hesitant woman, and also the desire to leave what he is familiar with and branch out, but not alone, with this lover. This evokes a thoughtful mood and a deep emotional response for any listener due to the fact that it can be relatable for people with all kinds of backgrounds. The recording quality itself is mostly adequate however I do find myself turning the volume up to the highest settings because some parts become muffled. The entire album stays consistent with the indie folk genre, which I enjoy due to the fact that it is calming and perfect for a long road trip. I feel that I have connected to it and reacted on a deeper level because of the setting I find myself listening to it in, which is typically in the car where I am most intent on listening to just the sounds of the album. However, I have had the opportunity to listen to this album with absolutely no distractions, and I truly was able to absorb the thoughtfulness of the lyrics, and the details of the entire album. Upon my review, I took note of key elements which made me appreciate the uniqueness of this album, such as the mood, and the melodies being similar yet different. The most obvious characteristics I admire about this album is the feel-good tempo the songs provide, but the lyrics serve a deeper meaning. This forces the listener to listen deeply to get the full effect of the song, but can also listen casually and still enjoy the melodic sounds.
