What does your writing habit look like right now?

I think the biggest struggle to create a writing habit is to accept the sacrifices you'll have to make in order to write. To finish a book you'll have to give stuff up. Maybe going out a Saturday night with friends, or accept you won't be able to spend as much time with your kids. Maybe you'll have to give up sleeping time, or working out time. Writing is difficult and it takes a lot of time. You have to accept you will need to take that time out of another activity.

Step No. 1
a. Define the end goal (ex: how you finish the book, How many chapters in the book)
b. Define how many words you are completing today like 30 thousand words or 40 thousand words, what is the end result?

Step No. 2
1. Reverse engineering makes smaller goals. Break the goal smaller pieces like how many words you are going to complete today. How long you actually want to spend to do doing this.

Step No.3
Scheduling your writing time

Step No.4
Put everybody notice on your schedule :

Step No. 5
Follow through with your schedule 100% for three weeks, you can build any kind of habit 21 days.

I stopped counting the daily words and only use the Pomodoro timer method (writing for 25 minutes at a time and then a 5-minute break). I aim for 4 or 5 Pomodoros per day, always at the same time. Sometimes I'm just researching and not writing but that is still constructive and essential. I do have a final word count target to hit, but I use this Pomodoro technique to get there, it seems to take the pressure off the word count and focusses more on continuous progression.

My writing habit is just being formed - I know I need to write 1, 567 words a day, or 10, 696 words per week to reach my goal of finishing the rough draft in 30 days. I know I write better before lunch, leaving my afternoon open for other things. I do not have a traditional job and all my kids are grown so I have a quiet household, and a husband who will respect my writing time. Today I will discover how long it takes me to put 1, 567 words onto paper (WORD) using my mindmap and outline as a guide. I can do this!

I just end up writing too much. My current book series is five books long, and has so much revising to do, but I’m so into the plot, that I don’t want to revise it until it’s over, then go back, and fix all the plot holes and such

When I wrote I used to write a chapter a day because I needed to have enough for my friend to read during my language arts class in eighth grade.

'What is my priority today?' That helps narrow down what to focus on every day.
