A bowl of hot oatmeal is a solid start to the day that can keep you feeling satisfied for hours, but there’s no denying that oats are vulnerable to blandness. Brown sugar and cinnamon can solve this problem for a couple days, but the repetition of the same few flavors can get painfully boring. To combat oatmeal monotony, look to your tea collection.

I was contemplating my love for chai spices when I was struck by how delicious they might be in oatmeal. Combining the soothing properties of tea and oatmeal would be a huge winter morning victory, as long as it doesn’t get too complicated. (If there’s one thing that doesn’t fit into my mornings, it’s complications.)

I actually had to do this recently cause I'm broke as hell and have very little water left to ration. Instead of opening up a new bottle, I took a leftover cup of green tea, boiled it, and poured it over instant oatmeal with some granola. Wasn't bad at all... interesting after taste.

i add acai berry powder to my bowl of overnight oats and it has a deep tea like umami flavour, goes really well with it.

"oat groats"? No, rolled oats or oat flakes are for porridge or brose (oatmeal). Oat groats are unpolished, husked oats (great for savoury stuff like Hogs Pudding, soups & stews).
PS Cocoa (not the dutch-process) cooked with rolled oats are delicious & healthy - chocolate breakfast for grown-ups!
