R.I.P. James Earl Jones (1931 - 2024).

He wasn't just the voice of Darth Vader. He *was* Darth Vader.

-It's time to go.
-Was I a good villain?
-Yes, the best of all the time.

“I’ve got to save you!”
“You already have, Luke.”

Honestly, best line in the entire saga.

Rest in peace to Sebastian shaw who was the face of Darth Vader unmasked, David Prowse the man who played Vader, and James Earl Jones the man who voiced one of the greatest villains in cinema history, the three of you left an impact that will last forever

Padme’s last words: “There’s good in him. I know there’s still...”

Anakin’s last words: “You were right.”

This isn't the death of Darth Vader. Darth Vader died the moment he decided to save Luke and kill Palpatine. This is the death of Anakin Skywalker, Knight of the Jedi Order.

“Let me look on you with my own eyes.” James Earl Jones last words as Darth Vader.

I can’t get over Luke’s face when he sees his father for the first time. No shock or disgust. Just the most tender smile. He is so happy to actually see him for the first time and Anakin smiles right back. They both really see each other for the first time. Amazing scene and acting with perfect music.

This might be the only time in anakins whole life where he was truly free for a moment..

This is how the man dies.
No sacrificing himself in a great explosion, no heroic speeches about changing morals
He tells the first person to care about him as a person in years to save himself and then lays back and is gone. Unceremonious, and haunting.

It breaks me that the last thing Anakin hears is Luke saying "I won't leave you"

He left his mother.
The Jedi Order abandoned him
He felt as though Padmé had abandoned him
Obi-Wan left him to suffer after besting him, not once but twice.

But now someone, finally tells him "I won't leave you".

I like how he speaks to Luke in such a fatherly way even though he never got to be a father. The original trilogy is perfect

Anakin lived a devastating life but a happy death.

1:08 Probably the first time Anakin Skywalker truly smiled in 20+ years

It seemed so ironic and so fitting for some reason that after the most evil villain of all time was finally defeated, when he was unmasked we could see and hear that he was nothing more than a tired, dying old man. And we also finally knew for sure that he truly was a man and not simply some terrifying machine. It just fit so well.

That brief moment of Anakin smiling when he's first unmasked always gets me. Gets me right in the gut.
