I surprised I didn't see over-striding mentioned—which is one of the main causes of any running injury. If your knees hurt from running, take a video of yourself running from the side. Look to see how far in front of you you're loading your leg with body weight. While contact in front can occur, the load should happen directly under your center of mass. If not, you're jamming that knee and hip with every stride. I know its anecdotal, but I run 20-30 miles a week totally flat 9mm-thick rubber soled sandals, minimal strength work, and haven't experienced any knee pain after reexamining my form. Sure enough, overstriding was to blame.

My pain didn’t show during running but instead during my sit-down leg stretches. You know the one where you bring one foot in and touch your inner thigh. Then stretch out the other leg by reaching for your toes. My left knee had pain the last 2-3 times I’ve done this stretch. Never used to though

I’ve had this impact knee pain for 7 months been in PT for nearly 3 with no effect. I’m slowly loosing faith that I’ll ever run again, I’m in my sophomore year, missed XC season. I need my knees to heal. I realized now but running is what’s kept me happy the past few years

I’ll add an important habit to avoid, in my opinion: Do not rear-foot strike when landing. Shoes now days often drive runners to land on their heel due to the thick soles. If you struggle with this, try barefoot running on a safe surface!

I have it in one leg only. I think it's either my stronger leg taking over or something about the pelvis being laterally tilted. Just my guess. So I'll try adding reps to my other leg during strength training and doing hip opening stretches regularly. Other than that, running without music to really feel into my body - maybe I'm just stepping a bit differently on each side. I'm much better at pistol squat on one side so it says something about imbalance.

I do not switch my shoes at mile marks. I personally prefer running in very flat shoes or running sandals. People need to get to that, but concrete running is also not very natural, so build up to minimalist shoes if running on concrete (alternate running with regular and minimalist shoes)

Having this for the past 2 weeks. 1st week i stopped running totally. 2nd week the pain persists but i started doing knee strength/mobility/foam rolling workout 2 times daily, morning and night before sleep. Immediately my knees felt a lot better with niggling pain. Now back to training but slowly.

Foam Rolling and stretching in Addition to strength training were my main points for getting out of this. Remember, its mostly the muscles, not the knee or other Bones itself.✌️✌️✌️

Yeh ive had pateller injury for over 20 years... strength training didnt help. Trampolining helps me, minimalist running shoes helps, slow jogging, core activation exercises and hill sprints.

Life is hard man, I was into running so badly and I hurt myself after going too hard and going to run 6 days a week with never having any experience at all, I walk a lot but I never ran like this before. I also was running up and down hills while hiking and I think it was way too hard on my knees, its funny also bcz I started experiencing pain after the only time I stretched😮

If you’re increasing 10% every 4 weeks where do you draw the line, personally? Is there an end goal of say 10-20-30 miles per run?

So I’m not a runner but I need to take a physical agility test for law-enforcement and I bought the new balance fresh foam X 1080 v 12 shoe Just wanted to know would that be a good shoe to help me not hurt my knee again? The last time I ran I was overweight didn’t stretch or anything. I hurt my knee it swelled up couldn’t bend it for a long time now it healed up I’ve lost weight but just want to see is this shoe good for what I need it for, and will help protect my knees.

I trained for a marathon when I was 20 years old. I got shin splints, injured my Achilles tendon, and screwed up my toes. I’m still feel those injuries from time to time to this day at 28. The shin splints took about 3 years but they’re finally gone.

I don't know if I have runner's knee, went to the doctor, but nothing could be seen, so I got medicine to surpress a possible inflammation. It all started 2 months ago and got stronger gradually so that 3 weeks ago I couldn't properly walk for 1-2 days after training+excercises, it hurt. Especially below the knee cap. Now I don't go cycling and running and hope it won't start again next time. It still occasionally hurts or feels like someone was pressing his thumb on the bone. I don't feel like the root cause was found, but will have to observe!
