I bought WinRAR last November, I confess that I still find it strange to open a .rar and not have any pop ups appear. 😂😂😂

I personally use 7-zip because it's fully free and open source and has 7z compression, which I'm pretty sure is way better than rar.

And then there's Reaper. $60 for a license, 60 days trial that actually never expires. Since it's largely targeted towards individuals, companies not wanting to get caught are less of a factor.

But the software is so good that users *want* to buy it. Also, it puts a big "EVALUATION LICENSE" on the window name so you don't want to be caught with that.

I'll never pay for WinRAR because I have developed some emotional attachment to the pop-up reminder. I don't know how I'd feel if I don't see it anymore.

When you think about it, it's effectively just freeware with a one time donation button, but they made it look like "paid" software

I love it, WinRAR taking money from big corporations but not common people if you look at it that way. A big applause from me.
