.rar files maybe but THEY DIDNT HAVE .ZIP UNTIL WINDOWS 11??? MacOS had that since Lion and Many Linux distros also have this for ages now.

Not true. You wont be able to compress RAR files. The RAR compression algorithm is proprietary and it would he illegal for Microsoft to do this...

Windows couldn't even extract my severely corrupted files. If they can surpass the top file extract softwares, then I would be satisfied with Microsofts' new file extract software.

@SurfsharkAcademy The only small downside is that if you want the archive file to be protected by password (for some reason from family or from your friend or whatever people) Windows 11 can't do it sadly. For that reason you need it to use a there party app like Winrar.

No, you can't. You might be able to compress to 7z, but not rar. WinRAR holds the patent for the RAR format, and while the general specification of the format is public, and so is reading algorithm, the creation algorithm is still a secret and is illegal to even reverse engineer and sell. Microsoft would get sued to oblivion if they added RAR creation ability to Windows.

I don't think anyone with slight knowledge of RAR files would buy Winrar license. I've been using unlicensed Winrar to decompress/fix/convert RAR files since years & it serves the purpose.

Still, the build in compressor DOES NOT allow password protection like RAR does.. so I guess we're still stuck.
