(Bite at 7:13)
Huntsmen are some of the most infamous and recognisable spiders, and with their rapid movements, hairy appearance and often large size, they can be a source of great discomfort for anyone who isn’t particularly fond of our eight-legged friends. But, while huntsmen may give many people the shivers, to what extent is that fear justified? Are these spiders dangerous, or are they simply eight-legged puppies? Let’s find out. In this video, I get bitten by a Typostola barbata (green-bellied huntsman). A Beregama aurea (golden huntsman) is also featured.

Study of 163 confirmed bites by various Australian huntsman species. Effects recorded were minor, and had a median duration of 5 minutes.

Oh also, for the people commenting about my weight, I do actually eat quite a lot, I just don't really gain any weight. Thanks for your concern anyway.

I knew the huntsman was reluctance to bite, however I was surpised that it stubbornly refused to bite, then only gave a half hearted attempt after all that agititation. Such a civilised creature.

Amazed by how docile and gentle this spider is. After all that aggravation, it only gave a reluctant semi- bite

"Highly complex and scientific term known as bullshit." really got me! 😂 🤣

Earned a sub from me. The fact you're not doing bite demonstrations for the wow factor but actually trying to show people what spiders are like is hugely refreshing! I'm a huge spider fan myself and hate seeing people kill them unnecessarily, rather than just relocating them.. going to watch more of your content. Keep up the good work! 👌

I've been trying to find a video like this for months, and I'm glad I found this. Thank you for spreading your knowledge, and doing this.

I think a lot of huntsman bites come from an overenthusiastic feed response, rather than defensiveness. I've experienced a nip when trying to handle them, and I know of other people who have experienced the same. You place your hand near them, with the intention of getting to crawl on, and immediately they run to the closest finger and nip. It only happens when you first interact with them, not once you've annoyed them.

I have handled so many huntsman, African and Australian species, and have never been bitten. Love your work and reasoning for doing it.

I walked into a small convenience store on Sumatra on my first visit to the island, I was shocked to see a huge huntsman sat in the corner and asked “is that thing dangerous?” His answer made me laugh “do you think I’d have a dangerous spider in my shop, you idiot?”

Big props for not making the spider go for a second bite because you didn't want to stress her out. Alot of other channels would just force it. Earnt my sub!!

What a great video 👍🏼

As someone who used to be so terrified of spiders (so much so that I'd uncontrollably shake, profusely perspire and feel nauseous), my fears were put to rest when I asked a client of mine to bring in a spider for me to actually face my fear.
The lady in question owned 53 different variations of tarantulas, and she brought in one called Dave.
When she removed him from his container, he slowly walked on her skin and was so placid. It made me feel calm, so much so that I ended up holding him and letting him walk all over me.
That was the day that I realised that my fears were irrational and that it was the feeling of adrenalin that I disliked. I felt little to no adrenalin at all when I handled Dave. Since then, I've happily removed spiders from my/ my friends and families homes, and told them all about how interesting and amazing these creatures are.
Of course I'd be wary of a naturally aggressive species, but on the whole I no longer fear them with such ignorance.

I was bitten by a Huntsman who was hiding under the car door handle and I had put my hand right on it . It did sting and swell up and go red on the bite sight but no major symptoms apart from almost giving me a heart attack because I fear Huntsmans.

I remember being in primary school, Brisbane, Queensland (about age 12) and my teacher asking, "Are huntsman spiders venomous?", I assured him they were not and he tried to catch the one in our classroom. He was duly bitten and he complained to me, "I thought you said they didn't bite?". I responded, "No, I said they're not venomous!".

huntsman spiders were the last group of spiders I was still irrationally afraid of even after the majority of my phobia was gone, I'm really glad that bit's gone by now too, they're wonderful and very cute!

Loved the vid and it was fun to film with you. All the huntsmen are back home and seem to be fine currently. The barbata female even took a cricket.

it always surprises me how little these creatures actually want to bite you. its almost like she complied to get it over with and convince you to leave her alone lol. cool creatures

This is incredible. For a long time I was afraid of spider.

I'm autistic and with OCD I have intense image and sensation about my fear of spider.

But I've seen some cute spider the multicolor one, and a neighbour told me he find all spider cute.

Suprisingly 1 month after, today, I'm even more surprise of my own reaction, I still feel a lil uncomfortable but I can manage it in focusing on the eye and to see it as a crab.

Probably some are still gonna make me freak out especially the ones dangerous for Human Kind, but now I'm more likely to be okay with it and to respect their lives.

I wouldn't want big ones in my house tho ahah (except the multicolor) but I'm more confortable now, and your demo actually take a next step in the concept of spiders being more likely to be scared of humans than the opposite.

As an autistic individual, I don't think I could handle the hairy ones walking free on my body tho especially on the head like you, I think even if I could find it like a funny things with time, this could trigger some bad feelings that would stress poor spidey, because of l'y sensory issues and hypersensitivity

But now I can get why people find spiders attractive and be curious about it.

Thanks you for what you shared here and I hope if one spidey bite me, I would become Spider man 😆❤

Omg the pedipalp crawl at 2:26 is adorable. Love huntsman faces, they are just so fuzzy and sweet looking.

Excellent explanation of the fact they are not aggressive nor dangerous. I always say if you leave them alone then they won’t even try bothering you. They just want the food and have no interest in you.

This is great. I’m glad someone out there is showing the world they shouldn’t be feared.
