Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.
5. ???? - Is there a Creature Tier above Gem? Stick around to find out....
Each of these Creature Tiers are a spectrum, and we can debate the placements of various animals in the comments section!

I love how reluctant spiders truly are to bite. They use that precious venom to eat, they don't want to waste it when they could just run away. 🥰

I like how the homie just chills there after the bite like "Im sorry I had to do that, tryna go for a hike or something?"

5:29 I love how the spider's like "Nooo I don't wanna bite you again!" Another reason to love spiders has been added to the list.

I'm working on my arachnophobia, and I made some progress in that I don't feel completely agitated when a spider greater than a small jumping spider is around. It got to the point where I can catch them with a container and observe them a bit before putting them outside. Thankfully where I live none of them are harmful, dangerous, or particularly large so I think if I had to deal with most spiders on your channel, I'd still freak the hell out, lol.

This was absolutely amazing Spencer, start to finish you hooked us in and you built out the story incredibly well. The effort and time you put into these videos is off the charts, and it really shows in the quality. It is so long overdue that you are getting some of the recognition you deserve, I’ve seen you push through so many challenges over the years and watched you build this platform from the ground up, all while helping us and the rest of the community grow alongside you. Every one of us agrees, no one deserves this break more than you, and you did it all on your own. You are the future of this space, and it is my distinct honor to join you. Great work brotha!

We have these guys near me. We call them dock spiders and they’re totally cool. As kids we used to snorkel under the docks at our cabin and every once in a while you’d look up and there would be this tarantula sized spider just chillin underneath the walkway. But again, they were totally cool. We’d walk over them all the time on the docks…they never bothered anyone and nobody bothered them 🤷‍♂️

I just discovered your channel and after watching this video I immediately subscribed. It really shows how much you love spiders and the passion you put when you talk them is remarkable. I love spiders too, and I love to study them in order to understand their amazing world. Thank you for helping me with that.

I have one in my basement, he's chill. Just hangs out near walls or on walls, plainly visible. Never tries to mess with us. Just eats the bugs and chills.

Everybody's level of pain management is different. What might be itchy to someone could actually put be quite painful to someone else. I would think you have some immunity at least to the pain of being bitten for the sake of research. Having said that, I think I would be sweating and sighing at the very least.😁 I thank you for your bravery. 👍

I appreciate your honest and reasonable reactions when getting bitten in these vids.

Coyote Peterson would've been screaming in exaggerated pain if this was his vid. Can't really trust that guy anymore since it seems like he's hamming it up to get more views.

What I'm getting at is that keep on keeping it real, your vids are great!

I guess with most spiders it really comes down to how allergic you are to their venom. Like people who are allergic to peanuts, it only affects a small amount of the population. For the vast majority of people an encounter with this spider or most spiders would end up with just a bit of pain and itchiness at its best. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Your videos are really cool. They show just how harmless a lot of spiders are. I commend you for educating people. I wish much success to you and your channel. 👍🏾

The issue with spider bites even if they are not poisonous - is that the bites can cause an infection at the site of the bite. It is very important to clean with peroxide and or warm soapy water and apply an antibiotic cream or ointment to the bite and surrounding area..
