How Long Should You REST Between SETS? (The Current Research)

One of the small factors that people in the fitness industry have argued relentlessly about is the amount of rest one should take between each set of exercise. From as little as 15 seconds to as long as 5 minutes, there hasn't been any concrete information on such a topic. The current research, however, might be able to shed some light on choosing the optimal amount for muscle growth.

If exercise is easy: < 60s rest
If exercise is hard: >60s rest
If time is a limitation: Adapt rest time to suit yourself

So rewarding when research back up real life experiences. When deadlifting, squatting, benching I can't perform with less than 3 minutes of rest, on the other hand I can rest 1 min between lateral raises and I do just fine. Keep it up man!

I never worry about timing my rests. I just do my next set when I get my wind back. Simple, yet effective.

I take 1-year rest periods between my squats because it involves a lot of muscle groups. I don't want to over-train these toothpicks.

Sleep is for the weak, I lift my own bodyweight in my dreams! No Grind No Gainz. (Lol lmao I still need to start my workout, I took a 7 year rest. With my calculations I will be buffed AF at the end of this hour)

I've got a kid, and I work out at my rest between sets varies wildly. Sometimes I don't get rest at all. I put the dumbells down and pick up a 40lb kid instantly and begin to kettle bell swing my kiddo. I've also gone from working out to cooking some food in the middle of my sets so the rest between those sets is about 30 min or more. Basically my set rest is all over the place and I don't really notice a difference.
