I just moved to South Dakota from North Carolina. Best decision I ever made.

As a fellow South Dakotan, I welcome anyone with open arms! Just please be aware of how things go around here and you’ll do just fine! Don’t try and change what we have going and you’ll get along with everyone! I love it here and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. It’s not a perfect state, but no other place I’d rather raise a family in the future!

The big thing about moving to South Dakota is they don't want you to try and change things. Go there because you want to be a part of the culture

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls. I moved to the province of Ontario, Canada 15 years ago. Can't wait to move back to the U.S. now that we are officially retired. My adult children both live in Sioux Falls. When I am there, I always feel like I'm home. It will always be home to me. And most of that is because of the people. Just really great people.

I live in Sioux Falls. I originally came here for college and decided to settle here. It’s not too big or small, and has practically everything you need. Sioux Falls is also very dog friendly. Proud to call it my home now.

My experience living up north: having a 4x4, the best set of winter gear you can afford, and an outdoor activity you enjoy makes the winter something to look forward to. Skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice fishing, ice skating, etc. I live in Texas now because it's where I'm from and my family is here, but I reminisce about my time living in Wyoming, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

I have some relatives who live in South Dakota, and I've visited them several times. The people there are truly some of the friendliest I have ever known.

I'm being honest here folks.
I live in California and am truly miserable for a number of reasons. Mainly the people suck. It's a freak-show even in the rural area I'm in. I'm retired and because of the fires and loss of homes, housing is either non-existent or so outrageously priced that it's not affordable.
After seeing the current governor of South Dakota speak at an engagement, I liked what she had to say and have been thinking a lot about making a move.
It's been particularly bad here for me lately and when I went to bed last night, my final prayer was for direction. When I got up this morning, this video came up in a notification in my subscription box. I wasn't subscribed to this site but I am now.
I'm thinking that my prayer might have been answered.

Moved from California, San Francisco Bay Area, a year ago and will fight anyone who tries to change South Dakota. Everyone asks how we survived the winter. Our first snowstorm was October 18, 2020. We loved it and the entire winter and summer here is more comfortable than where we lived in CA. The entire state has fewer people than the county we lived in in CA. And, yes, there is no traffic here. It's absolutely perfect. Don't come here.

It’s one of my favorites. I’ve been a trucker for 28 years and am asked quite a number of times which state is my favorite an SD is on top.

I have lived in Sioux Falls and Rapid but the best small city in South Dakota is either Brookings or Spearfish. Also, anything over 10, 000 is a city here! Not mentioned but the Missouri River is the gem of the state. Amazing fishing and rec

South Dakota is surrounded completely by good states... and it is a great state

Thanks for your honest and vivid portrayal of our beautiful state. We returned to Sioux Falls from California after retirement, would never consider leaving here again. Few people realize that Sioux Falls is one of the most dynamic, entrepreneurial cities of any size in the country with opportunities in tech, finance, and health care as well as many blue collar occupations. Unlike smaller communities in the state, Sioux Falls is very diverse with great restaurants, world-class entertainment venues, professional sports teams, wonderful parks, and vibrant night life. The winters are small price to pay for the freedom and sense of community we still have in South Dakota.

As I prepare to move to Sioux Falls next year for retirement and to be close to family, I’ll remember to share this video with my skeptical friends who can’t possibly understand why I don’t want to move to a warmer climate.

Here's some things to look out for though.
1. There's so much space, and if you want massive city life, you've come to the wrong place.
2. Winters are brutal for anyone who isn't ready to have snow in April
3. Everything is small town, Sioux Falls is the only place with a proper city population
4. People are nice, but status quo is heavily ingrained in everyday life
5. Towns get along, except For Tea and Lennox.

Absolutely love both South and North Dakota. Grew up in the South and have lived in the upper midwest for the past 30 years. Would not trade it for anywhere else in the country. Will take the cold winters over the hot summers down south any day.
