Just want to clarify something I said in the video but could be confusing from the thumbnail. I chose *diverticulitis* for the title because a quick YouTube trends search shows that it is MUCH more searched than *diverticulosis* which is the condition that 60% of people over 60 have (A smaller fraction get the ITIS). Just wanted to make sure no one got the wrong idea from the title/image combo.

Also, there are many amazing YouTube videos on this topic and the 10 year old clip is just a joke and was meant to be a reference to how this is not a super well-viewed video topic. Don't want to erase other creators on here. Thanks.

About 10 years ago, at the ripe age of 49, I ended up in the ER where I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Then I went vegan and the disease vanished. About a few months ago I had to get on antidepressants because of all the joy in my life, which caused serious constipation, the antidepressants, not the joy. But since I have more than enough fiber in my diet, it didn't present any major issues and the diverticulitis never reappeared.

BTW, congrats on hitting 400K. Oh how you've grown up. I remember ya when ya was nothin' but 200K.

I'm 39 and have had "itis" on and off for nearly 15 years. A few things: 1) No one actually knows what causes it. The mechanical pressure / constipation thing is a THEORY and one that IMO is not well supported. I personally believe it's a result of NSAIDs or additives in processed food damaging the lining of your colon. 2) It is an incredibly serious condition that can ruin your life similar to Crohn's or IBD. 3) They give out ABX like candy for it even though the literature admits it only helps in complicated cases. 4) Due to overuse of ABX I got Cdiff, lost 80 lbs, and nearly died. 5) The surgery is advertised as a "cure" but the disease often returns if lifestyle changes aren't made. 6) Dr Greger ultimately saved my life with a WFPB diet, though I also had to reduce gluten and alcohol.

Bathroom book readers, take note: if you have time to read, you may need more fiber.

I had a friend with this. That was the moment he realized I was right about eating plant-based. Lol

My grandma avoided tomato seeds and sesame seeds back in the 70s and 80s due to this. Guess she wasted her time.

I was very excited for this video. I would have appreciated more time addressing what an individual with diverticulosis can do to incorporate more nuts and seeds (and FODMAPs??). Like you said, this topic needs more attention since this affects people's ability to eat the foods that will cause or prevent popular causes of death and disability.

Plant-based diets once again proving better for human health, and I expect the carnies to object, by throwing all kinds of doubts on the studies/researchers, as per usual. Thanks for posting!

I seem to remember Dr Klaper saying that diverticulosis can be reversed with a high fibre intake.

Over 60, results from colonoscopy ( family history of cancer) showed I have Diverticulosis, never had symptoms, ate lttle meat, mostly vegetarian, for years, now mostly plant-based, and never had pooping problems, go figure.

It would be great to have a study of the improvement of people with the diva to take on a plant diet and see the improvement. Well done Mike, it is likely the best video out there!

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis whole on a healthy vegan diet. I was quite surprised given the amount of fiber in my diet. I was later diagnosed with celiacs. I now believe the celiac caused the diverticulitis issues.

I'm glad I'm eating a high fiber diet which includes nuts and seeds are helping reduce these risks.
