Dr. Berg's advice seems perfectly effective and well-advised to me. Dr. Westman's first nitpik is that all fasting should be under the close supervision of a medical doctor, but try getting insurance to pay for that! And besides, most doctors receive little to no training on nutrition in medical school so why are they qualified to monitor fasting protocols? Furthermore, most MDs dismiss outright any mention of nutritional supplementation while simultaneously pushing pharmaceutical drugs the first chance they get. I agree that fasting can interfere with prescription drug taking, in which case it's a good idea to consult with your doctor, but I don't see anything from Dr. Berg advising against this. I find his videos to be informative and instructive and have had good results from them.

After doing keto and low carb for a while the most effective tool to fix my diabetes T2 was regular 72 hour fasts. I could feel how much poison stored in my fat tissues I had to shed. I got more sensitive to insulin too. Your body needs to regularly switch between anabolic and catabolic states to become or remain healthy. The side effect of 3 day fasts is some muscle loss which at the time meant nothing to me. Today I do 3 day fast only a couple of times a year, but 16/8 as my target protocol with one 36 hour fast each week. No muscle loss there, because as I gained nearly 20 pounds of muscle in the last years with 3 times one hour weight training and regular HIIT each week. Refeeding after three days is not so dangerous cause if you simply start with a little fat and protein nothing bad will happen.

Unfortunately there's no money to be made in fasting so the chances of any real clinical trials ever happening is slim to none .

I agree. Intermittent fasting is impossible if you are eating refined carbs!!! 😅

Doc your suggestions of consulting a physician before engaging to what Dr. Berg claimed can cost a lot of money.

@Westman look into Russian papers, as longer term fasting is used in Russia with medical supervision/institutions. And they may have done peer review studies.

Almost had to turn off because of the backround music. Why would he play it louder than his voice?
