7:12 The truth about the fast food industry

In this video, we’re going to talk about some of the fast food industry’s secrets that can keep you wanting more but are detrimental to your health.

The average American consumes between 2 and 3 fast food meals per week, which adds up to 150 to 200 meals per year. Even if you order value meals or make choices from the dollar menu, most people spend around $1500 to $2000 per year on fast food.

The fast food industry uses all sorts of marketing tactics to keep you wanting more. Mcdonald’s uses yellow and red, which stimulate impulsivity, increase serotonin, and even encourage you to eat faster.

The fast food industry also targets children, hence the playgrounds and happy meals at fast food restaurants. They use upselling techniques by offering fries or a combo, which can increase profits by more than 22%. Prices containing the number 9 can increase the likelihood of making a purchase!

McDonald’s is one of the largest beef buyers in the U.S. They use low-quality factory-farmed beef fattened with grains and treated with antibiotics.

Fast food meals also contain poor-quality ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, corn oil, soy oil, corn flour, corn starch, and fillers like maltodextrin. These ingredients are highly processed and highly inflammatory. Although fast food may seem cheaper and more convenient in the short term, it can cause massive health consequences in the long term.

My wife and I stopped eating all the fast food about 15 years ago and it's been a blessing. We don't even notice those places when driving past them.

399 days Carnivore. 645 days quit smoking. 682 days quit drinking. 93 pounds weight loss. Lean muscle gain. A massive reduction in inflamation, depression and brain fog. I have been reborn in many ways. My cognitive abilities have improved. My hormone levels are massively improved. I could go on and on but you get the picture. BTW I did this with a Hashimoto's autoimmune diagnosis to boot. Shout out to Dr Berg for being a classy human being. 51-year-old fella here from the north of the UK.

As someone who raises a small flock of chickens, the treatment of these chickens in the industrial environment is deeply disturbing.

We live in a society where a mother will scold a teenage child for smoking cigarettes but take them through a fast food drive thru not understanding they are creating the same damages as the cigarettes do.

McDonald's used to cook it's fries in beef tallow, until the late 80's (early 90's in some regions). They used to taste so good, even when cold. Now they taste like something found at the bottom of a dumpster, even when fresh.

I remember Chuck Norris giving his opinion about fast food: "Fast food is a fast way to the grave!".

I make my own burgers and it has only one ingredient "Grass fed free range beef!"
Once you try it you will never ever eat at these evil corporations.

I am blessed to live in South Korea. Restaurants here actually serve real food, lots of meats, vegetables, and kimchi. There isn't much junk in supermarkets, and the price is really affordable 👌🏽

When I was a teenager, I worked in fast food for a year. I have never eaten it again, nor do I drink any sodas.

I worked at both Wendy's and McDonald's as well as other restaurants but I assure you that corners will be cut at all of these joints. Company policy may say to change fryer oil out daily but I have personally seen it used for well over a week and the only reason we changed it when we did is the oil was so dirty that it was making breaded products look black and dark...we never got any complaints over it

Ppl used to mock me, bc for yrs i use to work in restaurants ... but i used to read the ingredients that this food was made out of ... some of it was barely 'legally' considered EDIBLE ! ... But bc i worked at those places, it gave me a greater appreciation of knowing what to eat ... & how important it was to go that extra mile in patiently learning how to cook. Im NOT the greatest cook now, & i have eaten alot of 'overly' cook food ... but like anything thats truely good & right for you, there is a sacrifice & a process. I Thank GOD & it's been a Blessing in my life, that he took my path in that direction ... bc i now see the health problems & manic, on-the-go lifestyle this type of diet can lead to ...

Whenever I cave in and buy some fast food, even though I eat it I feel like I just ruined my day.

I was in the Fast Food Industry for 30 years. 23 as a Franchisee. All of your points are exactly what I experienced and what was taught to us on how to increase profitability. When the Franchise went from privately held to Publicly traded all of these points were magnified to increase the profits to a higher level for stockholders at the expense of franchisees and customers. After the IPO they increased the fat levels of menu items, included more sugary menu items, “improved” the product by adding hydrogenated oils, salts, and sugar that chemically created a more addictive food. In the end I was 100 lbs heavier and not only that I saw numerous regular customers die from their diet of poor food. With the menu changes they also lowered the menu price and increased the volume of by bundling menu items. This increased the profitability of the franchise while cutting profitability to the franchisee. These massive franchises market to your children because as they told me “Nothing sells product better than a child incessantly asking for a parent to get something”. I’ve never regretted leaving. Every single point you made is 100% accurate.

Hello Dr. Berg,
I have been on the ketogenic lifestyle, OMAD IF and have been following your videos since 6/2022. Since then, I have lost over 90 pounds, weigh 138 lbs currently and 29 waist size. I also reversed my insulin-resistance and metabolic syndrome entirely along with their degenerative conditions like HTN, obesity, pre-diabetes, stage 3a CKD---normal kidney functions, A1C of 4.8, fasting glucose 72, fasting insulin 4.3, TG-66, HDL-64. Normal inflammatory markers, including uric acid. Normal GGT levels.
I feel great and energetic. I walk over 50 miles a week.
Thank you for saving my life and improving the quality of my life. I always recommend your videos to friends and family interested in Ketogenic lifestyle and intermittent fasting.
Thank you, and best wishes. 😊
